11315 One Day at a Times (give or take for leap years:)

December 16, 2010 I discovered this forum. No, my Higher Power guided me here. I want to thank you all for being here. This is where it's become a habit to start each day no matter what's happening.

I thank you for helping me make it to today, 11/27/2011, my 31st NA Birthday. Damn crazy to even think. I'm a hope to die dope fiend and Clean Thirty-one Years by the Grace of God through the Power of NA!

Think I'll Keep Coming Back!

One Day at a Time. I Surrendered therefore I Win, Just for Today. NA is a simple program for addicts like me who like to complicate things and have the illusion of being in control. The key to not using is not using. Huh? If I don't pick up I don't get loaded! It's as simple as that, didn't say always easy, but simple. I choose to not use no matter what. And by the Grace of God through the Power of NA that is a choice I have today. Not having to use is a gift, a most precious gift.

The Steps are my roadmap to living life, all of life, not just not using. I alone can do it but I can't do it alone. Surrender isn't one and done, it's a daily deal for me that takes constant effort and vigilance. The more I surrender my will and my life to a power greater than myself the more power I have to live a life worth living.

I used to feel worthless. I was scum of the earth. I didn't believe I deserved a better way of life. One Day at a Time living the principles of NA it gets better. Over time, One Day at a Time, by giving back what was freely given to me feelings of self centered degradation have been replaced by real serenity and contentment. I'm ok in my skin today. I wasn't as bad as I thought nor do I need to be perfect anymore. Striving for perfection and beating myself up for failing was just part of my warped Ego. Today I still constantly fall short of who I want to be and it's ok as long as I continue growing and moving towards being all I can be.

Recovery is a Journey, not a destination. I used to think NA Birthdays were no big deal, just another One Day at a Time. And my having 31 years Clean is just that, a bunch of One Day at a Times. I am no big deal, just another recovering addict. BUT a Clean Addict, ANY Clean Addict IS a big deal, a Miracle! And I've come to believe it is my Responsibility to NA to share this milestone that is just another One Day at a Time milestone with other recovering Miracles so that the Miracle can continue for us all. We must remain forever vigilant so that no addict seeking recovery need die from the horrors of addiction, including ourselves. My gratitude speaks when I care and when I share the NA way.
