In 1986 the WSO asked the fellowship if they could correct bad punctuation and fix some poorly written sentences in the 3rd edition revised. Done through the proper channels (CAR) this was approved and WSO hired some professionals to fix the text. When it was put out the fellowship flipped out because lots of stuff got cut, editied away, completely changed and lost when it went to the printer (paragraphs were actually dropped on the floor so the WSO sent stickers out to fill in blanks). Our book went from 290 pages to 278 under the guise of grammatical changes. This is why we got the 5th edition less than one year later and also why there has been a moritorium on changing the basic text since 1988.
This is a kind of crazy basic text trivia point.
We got our 1st edition Feb 1983, a changed 2nd edition May 1983, a changed third edition jan or Feb 1984, a changed third revised 1986, a changed 4th edition feb 1987 and a changed 5th edition Jan 1988. Six different editions in less than five years. We love to fight but our text has saved millions of lives and helped create a true worldwide fellowship!
Can anyone throw more light as to the specifics of what was changed from the 3rd edition to the 4th? and if these changes were reverted back to the original form in the 5th? Just curious being a NA History enthusiast myself
