Welcome! You are truly not alone. Many here have said the same thing. It's an important admission...You know you can't stop on your own, so you reach out for help. Go to a meeting, and introduce yourself..say you need help quitting drugs. You'll be surprised at the response. The promise of narcotics anonymous is simple. "any addict can stop using and lose the desire to use drugs" It worked for this addict. It can work for you. Keep coming back and let us know how you are doing.
Are you an addict? Most of us don't have to think twice about this question we know, our lives were centered around drugs. The getting and using and finding ways and means to get more. If you are like us one was too many and a thousand never enough. It doesn't matter what or how much you used, only what you want to do about your problem and how we can help.
Narcotics Anonymous is a fellowship of addicts Recovering from active addiction One Day at a Time. The most important thing about NA is that is working in the lives of tens of thousand of Clean addicts.
Before finding the fellowship of NA I tried many was of quitting. Nothing worked for long until finding NA. I could not stop using for any length of time until NA. Today Clean One Day at a Time 30 years. And it can work for you too if you want it.
Your profile shows you are in Kuwait. Don't know what face to face in person meetings are available. Find what you can and go as often as possible. Also uur NA Basic Text is available online:
I'm a pill-head too, amongst other things. One thing stood out to me in what you wrote: "soon as I am around pills I just want to take them". I know well how hard it is to live life and not be around pills. They're everywhere, and for someone like me, who has a very hard time saying no, it's extremely challanging. I moved 2200 miles away from the man who contributed to my addiction, because I knew if I didn't, I'd never be able to stay away from him, or the pills. It took me about a year and a half to actually commit to the program of AA/NA (my home group is a mixed bag lol) but I lived with an addict in recovery in the meantime, which helped me to not seek out pills or anything else. Without him in my life, being in AA himself, I wouldn't have been able to do it without a 12-step program.
We cannot do this alone. We must be around others who have learned and are learning ways to live a sober life. People we can learn from and lean on. People who have walked a path similiar to our own. If you truly want to stop addiction's control over your life, and take back control, you need to find a meeting. Go to as many as you can in the first 90 days. They say 90 meetings in 90 days, which hasn't been possible for me, but I do make about 5 a week. Go early and stay late. Listen to people and share when you feel able. Participate in meetings, and you'll learn the tools you need to participate in your life, instead of watching it pass you by in a haze of addiction.
welcome - as avid says " any addict can get clean and lose the desire" that's including you my friend...you don't have to use....pray that you will fight the good fight
