Heavy heart

It's with a heavy heart and great sadness that I share the news that my friend and sponsor received her eternity chip this morning.  Her health had been deteriorating for some time and this morning God called her home.

Hi Brandi,

My sponsor was called home, to the big meeting in the sky after sponsoring me for 11 years.  Today I have been blessed with 21 continuous years, and I hear my sponsor sharing in meetings and sponsoring guys all the time, through all the many things he shared with me, and said to me over the years, coming from my heart and off my lips today.  He lives when I carry the message to the still sick and suffering that he carried to me.

This was a time of transition, of life inflicting its own version of change upon me.  It was a tough time.

Be gentle on yourself, let your feelings process with safe people, share the quality your sponsor brought to your recovery, thank your HP for the gifts you will carry with you for the rest of your life that your sponsor gave you.

Then... find another sponsor.  Don't make the same mistake I made, and look for one just like.... (which kept me without a sponsor for almost 18 months).  Each individual brings something new and fresh to the table of our recoveries, and your HP has already prepared someone to deliver that to you.

One of the many things my first sponsor said to me was... "Hold a sponsor with one hand, and a sponsee with the other, and you won't have a hand to use with any more."  He was so right.

My prayers go up for you, those that loved and was loved by your sponsor.

John

This past year has seen the death of several long time members of my area. It's a real study in surrender and spirituality.
Two of the members came to meetings daily before they passed. They expressed gratitude, love, and appreciation for the life that NA gave them.
It would bring tears to the eyes of those present to witness the courage of these two men in the face of extreme pain and imminent death.
Yet there is another member...with many years clean who is bitter, resentful and seems to be using his terminal illness as an excuse to settle old scores
and tell everyone how screwed up he thinks they are.
Perhaps this is a phase, and as his check out date comes closer he will find peace in his heart.
I pray that this is so.
Thanks for sharing Brandi
