I am a 34yr old male who has been going to meeting for awhile but have had a problem w/ certain aspects of perceived hypocrisy at some meetings. I would go to various meetings in the Tampa/New Tampa area. I have chronic pain and am a opioid addict. I would like to know how helpful the online support has been to others. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to MIP! For me,this Forum has been a blessing and very helpful in my recovery being able to honestly share at any given time with people who truly care about their individual recoveries and suggesting in a loving and caring manner things that have helped or hindered them working their own process.Having said that ,I truly believe nothing replaces FTF meetings.I have had trying times also in certain meetings but I do not try to poke holes in the program.I have a homegroup that I truly love and I make many different meetings out of area at times when Im feeling certain things.Sometimes the disease will play with your head also and certain things may be not really as deep as they seem and other times "sharing clean and living dirty" meetings(people in) can be a mind bender..I can only suggest don' let anything take you out, keep searching you'll find a place.... Hope to hear back from you...My 25 year old son is an opioid addict(since 17) in recovery 9 months (methadone 140mg's per dose) and has had problems also in certain meetings also..He continues to move forward in the best way he knows how for now and he is aware of literature and NA's stance on substitute medications..His long range goal is complete abstinence form the juice but he knows he is responsible for his own recovery. peace....

first, your perception is correct. NA is not perfect, we members are only human, and humans are not perfect. so NA is made up of humans who who are addicts see where im going with this....If you are having issues with personalities in your meetings you attend, I would find new meetings. . there is a great meeting in your area at 5:30 on Wed.. Nebraska ave, check it out. Na is a program of abstenence from all drugs. there is a difference between taking pain meds and being dependent and on being an addict. I started on meds for pain also, but there came a time it was about the drugs and no longer about the pain. matter fact, in the long run they make us more sensitive to pain, every little thing seems to hurt and we medicate more. I was glad to get off of them and found there are allot of other options out ther
NA is a program of complete abstenence. The only requirement is the desire to stop using. We are not here to judge someones pain level and I have no opinion on using only recovery. try meeting on nebraska ave or Florida ave's, 5:30 wed's..
I was on allot of pain meds at one time, there came a point it was all about the drugs and no longer about the pain, the pain was an excuse and my disease justified it in my head.
I believe online meetings cannot replace regular meetings and the unity, energy, and recovery we experience in our rooms.

Hi lovecraft and welcome. The only desire for membership is a desire to stop using. I'm curious about the "perceived hypocrisy" you mentioned. Can you be more specific? Anyway, welcome and keep coming back. I love this forum and visit it daily.
FOR ME ONLINE SUPPORT IS WONDERFUL..BUT I'M THE KIND OF ADDICT..THAT NEED PHYSICAL CONTACT..WITH OTHER ADDICTS..I MUST STAY VISIBLE..MY LIFE DEPENDS ON IT
