Greetings fellow addicts. I would like to introduce myself. I am Brian, now a recovering addict. I spent six years in the army to include two tours in Iraq. After my stint in the army I went through divorce and soon afterwards found myself on a downward spiral into the dark world of addiction. Abusing everything from opiates to more recently meth. For five years I have pretended I was still in control of my life, disregarding all the loss of hard earned material, credit and several relationships. On march 21 I was arrested for schedule two possession and found myself staring at concrete walls through steel bars withdrawing from what now feels like a very bad five year acid trip. After spending three weeks in jail my family decided to make my bond and brought me to San Antonio to check into treatment at the va. Tomorrow I go for my evaluation and will soon begin a six week program. It is unfortunate that it took an arrest and now a likely felony drug conviction to make me realize I had to make a change but it beats worse alternative of death that I was headed for.
That's my story in a nutshell...I look forward to these forums and meetings as another tool in my road to recovery. 38 days sober and counting......
Welcome to this board. Glad you're here. Have you been going to in-person NA meetings? You will find lots of experience, strength, and hope there. Keep coming back and don't use no matter what.
