I heard a good one tonight in a meeting, ( thats your first hint), so heres what i heard, " If your a crackhead and you want to stop smoking crack, then don't smoke crack, and if your lifes a mess go to NA meetings and work the program of recovery".
Its a pretty simple program once you surrender the fact that your hopeless addict and you want help and are ready to do anything to stay clean, which adds up to A. get a sponsor, B. go to meetings C. work the steps with that sponsor, D. Find a higher power E. get into service F. Trust that this process will work , as long as you dont use and do the deal.
going to detox to get the drugs out of your system is a start. then when you get out go to an NA meeting and ask for help. Cutting your using friends loose is a really important step that many are unwilling to do. If you keep hanging around people who use, how long will it be before your back on the pipe? In the beginning you can't go to too many meetings. Really. Tell people where your at ...believe me, we all been there.
Emotional acceptance of utter defeat,Step 1,you are powerless(using drugs against your will) and that force that drives you is beyond your control..Surrender and begin recovery, the healing starts as the drug is put down and you incorporate a program that will teach you about yourself and the disease that has overcome you.The solution is spiritual in nature and starts with complete abstinence.Narcotics Anonymous can show you that new way to live if you apply yourself, take direction and suggestions a day at a time.C'mon in from the storm....

thats the first part in recovery is to admitt to being an addict, just take it a day at atime and things will go the way you want them to go..... you cant expect things to happen over cuz I thought it would to and now ive been 7 months clean and I dont even have the urge to use... its all in our head when we say we cant quit. well good luck and do your best and take it a day at a time and step by step.
Mike, welcome, you have already set the process in motion, by reaching out here and by clearly sharing that you don't know how to stop. That's a great place to be in, I know from my own experiences as that means the "I know how to stop or control" phase is over...
Check out where the NA meetings are held nearby where you stay. Make one. Reach out to other members there. The rest is done for us. We just need to keep coming back to the meetings. We are never alone, and we don't have to do it alone. There are many like me, in NA, who have found a way to stay stopped, have lost the desire to use and have successfully found a new way to live.
