Self-Esteem

Hey everybody, my name is Annie, and I currently have 6 months clean. I have been in a women's sober living for about 5 months now, and I have a huge self-esteem issue. I spent 3 years on hte streets of Hollywood as a rampant meth user. In the last couple of months I spent on the streets, I caught scabies due to the filthy living situations I exposed myself to. By the time I was treated, I was left with these dark spots all over my body, which are a result of the scars. I am tortured and feel trapped in my own body, and the way i look has a huge effect on my sobriety and the way I live my life every single day. Can anyone relate, or offer me any hope?
 Thank You

Hi and welcome.
You are not alone.
We all have scars from our addiction. All of us are scared on the inside and many of us on the outside as well.
there are consequences to our actions. Some of these will heal, others won't.
We are powerless over that.
What we do have power over are the choices we make today and all the days that will follow. Regardless of what we may look like
We can change the way we see ourselves.
There is absolutely no doubt that as we make better choices our lives become better.
In your case for example, you can choose to be bitter, resentful and self pitying over your appearance, or
you can choose to be a beautiful God centered spirit that people will be drawn to from love.
there are other choices of course, but those are two of the extremes.
If you choose the first one....it will inevitably lead back to using.
If you choose the second, then the journey begins by not using no matter what, and gaining clear vision by working the 12 steps of Narcotics Anonymous.
May you find peace and the beauty that lies within us all.
thank you for the honest share. I know this isn't easy for you.
Please keep coming back. It really does get better.

Glad you're hear--welcome! The biggest thing I can to do help my self-esteem is to not use drugs today. When I don't use, I can move in a positive direction. When I use...disaster follows. Keep coming back!

First of all welcome. Ya I know exactly how your feeling rite now even though I dont have scars on the outside I know I do on the inside, But your right in gods eyes we are beautiful. But looks aint everything its how you go about treating yourself and others as well, and we also have to remember that when we use we arent only hurting ourselves but the people who love us. So the point where Im getting at is dont worry about what you look like on the outside just move forward and make evryone see the beauty on the inside of you and things will go well for you...................just remember we are all BEAUTIFUL  on the insidebiggrin and may god bless you in everyway possible..........GOOD LUCK
