Back in July '09 when I started going to AA meetings, I got a list from the local shrink-shack and went to a Thursday night meeting that the list said was a "Bill & Bob Legacy Meeting." That was supposed to mean something to me, I guess.
So I show up at the right church, right time, right need. This was to be my 3rd meeting and my 4th night booze/drug free and that night I needed what I got from my first two meetings...hope and acceptance.
Nobody there but the janitor. He said "last week there was only one guy here and he left with some boxes of books and a couple of posters." He showed me where the light switches were and left.
I wasn't sure, but I had the feeling that there wasn't a meeting there any longer. So after getting a glass of water I sat down, took out my 24 hour coin and started spinning it on the table. "Keep Coming Back" & "God grant me...." flashing until it went flit-flit-flit-it-it-it to a stop on the table. A fly landed on the edge of my water glass. I opened the meeting with The Serenity Prayer and shared with that fly. I let the fly crawl on my hands. I closed the meeting with The Lord's Prayer, washed my glass, turned off the lights and locked up.
Turns out that a "Legacy Meeting" indicates one that Bill &/or Bob attended at some point in its history. I think they would approve of the last meeting there being an alkie in need, a couple of prayers, and a fly.
There will be nights at Decorah Peace NA that it's just me, the candle in the window and my HP. I'll still do all the readings. I'll share with the poster of MLK Jr. and then I'll read until the hour is up.
