Thank God for another day clean. Do you have any experience with dealing with recovering addicts who believe that it's cool to consume energy drinks with caffiene/alcohol in lethal dosages as a form of excitement ? And being a longtime member of this fellowship (approaching 24 yrs. in recovery) I've been around to see many seasoned members lose cleantime over these sorts of drinks in the 90's it was the tigerbone swushi (ginseng root) that contained alcohol. Alcohol is always a drug.
Literature tells us"any mind altering mood changing chemicals"although it also says ,our problem is not a specific substance it is the disease of addiction.!Anything with alcohol in it would be taboo for this addict.(even veal marsala that I used to love) ALCOHOL IS A DRUG!regarless if alcohol burned off or not.We can only carry our message of recovery trhough abstinence and working in our "solution" the spiritual priciples of the steps/traditions and concepts...we can't decide who will get it.. No one could convince us we were addicts,,we have to ask ourselves can I control my use of any mind altering mood changing substances??(chemicals)substances could mean variety of things, relationships, anger, fear etc...we'll keep it on drugs...We are powerless over others but if directly asked I would refer them to literature and share my experiences of total abstinence being only thing ever worked for me...(plus doing the work)Congrats on your clean time,a very valuable asset ,although it don't equal recovery, lose yours and see how valuable it is!!!Stick around we need you.Keep coming back....

Good point. Our program is clear. "Alcohol is a drug". So no one should deceive themselves about that. As for highly caffeinated energy drinks........well, I see people drinking these all the time. Personally I think it's dangerous. It causes physiological changes that give you a buzz. No, it's not a high in the true sense I guess but still it is mood altering. but our fellowship has difficulty with this issue. Take nicotine for example. It is a highly addictive mood altering drug that kills more people every year than all the street drugs combined, yet it's ok for NA members to smoke. These are some of the inconsistencies that if we let ourselves look at too closely can be used to think our way out of the program. So, I don't drink red bull or any energy drink. Hell, too strong a cup of coffee sets my heart pounding, but as for the fellowship I guess it has to be in the category of nicotine. Lesser of the evils I guess.
Well congratulations on another day clean.... keep up the good work. I dont agree with exchanging one habit to another because those energy drinks arent good for you as well. So just try to lean on sumthing that is good and healthy for you k. Good Luck And May God Bless You In every way possible....
