One of the things I have struggled with is learning how to stop making traumatic events/feelings in my life into idols of misery. I kept them alive as anniversaries for years and did not see how that was keeping me stuck in a festering tangle of fear, pain, remorse, anger, grief etc etc. For me it took professional help and medication, in addition to being clean and sober on a daily basis and working a program of recovery as if my life depended on it (which it does!!!)

Depression is like addiction in that it involves obsession and compulsion. The more you focus on depression--depressive thoughts, feelings, actions--the more depressed you'll be. One of the ways of breaking the cycle of depression is to be with other people, especially positive people. Isolation feeds depression. NA meetings are a good place to find positive people who can help.

what if your area NA meetings are nothing but drama and cliques
that is one of the main reasons my recovery is found here on the WWW

Manon ,My area is like that,I don't belong to clicks,I don't gossip .Those people are probably insecure in there recovery but scared to admit it.I have seeked other meetings new faces ,new people. No one says we have to go to a meeting unless we like the crowd or the message they are putting forth.Let it go here we will listen ,maybe find new meetings.

LISTEN TO THE MESSAGE when people share there experience strength and hope and  stay out of personaltiys.

I may be wrong in your case but even in places like you describe,  there are always a few people who share some good recovery, focus on those people. Even in the worse people you'll hear something therapeutic, LOL even if its something you hear thats not recovery at least you can recognize.

I say sit and listen, we often make ourselves feel different like we dont fit in , most of us never fit in anyhow and thats something that often needs some work, socializing, getting to know others, getting past fear that they will get to know us and pull covers, etc etc.

I'm with Vin on both of his postings Manon. You will feel better if you change the way you think. I try to look for the good in everything and I can always find something to be grateful for. Gratitude lists are a great tool and also walking around smiling, I know it sounds dicky but it works. I pray that you will come through this and find a reason to smile..

I would have never gotten clean if I had tried to do it all on the internet. I need contact with real, live people who can help me. The internet can supplement regular NA meeting attendance but it can't replace it. True, there can be problems at NA meetings--people are not perfect--but people can help me more than a computer screen any day.
