Start making new friends in NA. We all need friends. I found that I kept on hanging out with my old using crowd until I started making some new friends. Once I stayed clean for a while, I really didn't want to be around people who were high on drugs or alcohol.
Some you can avoid, but some you can't. You need to make it clear that you are not rejecting them, you are rejecting drugs. Invite them to a meeting with you. Give them some literature. But make it absolutely clear that they are not welcome if they are using. This can be a rough time. It's important to get close to people in recovery and let them know you need their support. The bottom line is that you don't pick up no matter what.
You have to make new friends in NA.You have to learn to wave to old friends while driving by.No matter how good a friend if you used together you have to replace them with someone new.
oNE OF THE HARDER THINGS FOR ME WAS EVENTUALLY DROPPING OUT OF MY ENVIRONMENT.i WAS THOUGHT OF AS EVERYTHING FROM A CI (CONFIDENT INFORMER) a NARC A REAL DOWNER,ALL BECAUSE I SAID i WOULD NO LONGER PICK UP.THE LIFE OF THE PARTY WAS WORKING A NEW LIFE.bAND MEMBERS(DRUMMER IN MANY BANDS)COOLED TO ME..i was alone but continued the search for people in recovery and eventually worked the rooms..Our process takes us on all kinds of jouneys.we must remember."nothing changes if nothing changes!changing of our old attitudes and behaviors,brings us to different roads.Those people will soon dissappear as they no longer can control their effect on you..When i first joined my church group I thought man,these people are really strange,square,aint the word!! i now am so glad to be strange ,square and free from active drug addiction,through God's grace and daily work!!Just dont use ,more will definitely be revealed!!!

I KNOW FOR ME - I HAD TO STOP CALLING; STOP VISITING; AND THEN THEY STARTED TO BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAID I WASN'T USING - I STARTED GOING TO LOTS OF MEETINGS - GETTING NEW PHONE NUMBERS - HANGING WITH FOLKS WHO WEREN'T USING AND THEN NEXT THING YOU KNOW - ALL I HAVE ARE FRIENDS THAT ARE CLEAN AND THE ONES THAT NOW CALL ME THAT ARE STRUGGLING - CALL ME FROM A PHONE LIST - THAT THEY HAVE SHOWED UP AT A MEETING AND NEEDING SOME TYPE OF SUPPORT - SEE I HAD TO QUIT GIVING MYSELF PERMISSION TO CALL/HANGOUT WITH FOLKS THAT WERE STILL USING - TODAY I SEE OLD PLAYMATES, PLAYTOYS AND PLAYGROUND - I AM UNAFRAID - BECAUSE I HAVE CHOOSEN A NEW WAY OF LIFE - I DON'T RUN - OR HIDE - IF COME FACE TO FACE I HUG AND TELL THEM I LOVE THEM - THEY KNOW I AM CLEAN. BUT I HAD TO QUIT PLAYING THE GAME
