Hi all, Im certain that many of us here have served in various elected positions in NA, whether at group, area, regional or world level.
Elections usually happen through group conscience and would reflect candidate choices. Canditaes put in their resumes at the appropriate body; therefore for a group position the candidate would put in a resume at the group and group members will consider it, for an area position the resume would be introduced from the group and area will ask other groups to come back with conscience, and at regional and world levels the corrosponding action will take place.
My point in this discussion is this; what constitutes right and wrong behaviour on the part of a candidate ? Is the candidate supposed to put in the resume and sit back and watch the process unfold and not not be emotionaly involved withoutcomes or, does the candidate put in the resume and make the necessary calls, visits and appearances so that people in NA get to know who he/she really is ?
And what about actually asking for a vote ? Is it allowed ? Is saying " Ive put in my resume and hope you will support me" the correct approach or is it better to be direct and say "I think Im especially suited for this position, please vote for me".
Usually friends and close associates will also pitch n withy their thing, but what actually copnstitues right and wrong behaviour by candidates ?
Im in the process of being a hopeful for a particular poistion here, and am really confused. Im not sure how other candidates have approaced it but I am not certain of the correct procedure involving "attraction rather than promotion"...
Please share your inputs,, thanks in advance !

Raman All area's have guidelines on how trusted servants are elected.Where I'm from we volunteer, then you get a second on your desire to fill position. Then there is a group vote, which is the group conscience.I am a GSR and a Regional Committee in the Region I belong to.Goodluck,I hope you get voted back in.
Hey Raman! i AM ALSO GSR FOR MY mONDAY NIGHT HOMEGROUP and when at area I see some strange happenings.Last week they were talking of waiving a term limit on a festival chair because he had donE it so long and no one else would take it.It was not passed (not a majority vote) so they nominated the assistant festival chair, and voted to waive his clean time(called for 2 years he only had 8 months) and then it was already seen that the original festival chair would probably run the event again anyway even though the sub was being considered. They were working around all the guidelineslike(suggested clean time, can we make amendment etc)On top of that the chair of ASC says to the 'newly nominated guy"(clean time waived);WELL IF THINGS DON;T WORK OUT YOUR WAY ,WILL YOU TAKE YOUR BALL AND GO HOME. I personally found that as character assasination and not called for in an open forum(my stuff) anyway.looks as if "we are all human and humans act accordingly. If its not practical its not spiritual ,I like that!!!!!Good luck Raman....principles before personalities and remain focused.....

Thanks for the input.. Strangely,, maybe not so strangely,,more and more manipulations are coming to light...
The entire election process here has not been right. It should be The candidate puts in resume to group if group conscience okays it, it is passed onto ASC at the next area meeting there, the resume is read out and gsr's are given a chance to ask questions of the candidate/s the resume is then passed onto groups by the ASC and are asked to come back with a conscience, vote is taken in case of a tie, he chairperson breaks it
in the meanwhile, of a candidate finds put that malifide tactics or smears are made on him or her that prevented a free and fair election, then there is a;ways recourse to the 10th Concept.
All that said and done, these are ideal practices, and have been followed once upon a time in Bangalore. If the same were to be asked of political elections, then it will be difficult to follow because of the large numbers. But here in Bangalore, there are only 11 groups and a total regular membership of about 100, therefore ideal election practices can easily be followed/monitored.
Strangel though, that after all the talk of honesty and spirituality heard in recovery meetings, none of that seems to aply in elections and consciences. This, I humbly say, is basically group opinions being circulated, rather than well-informed decisions that constitute group conscience...(Basic Text, Tradition 2)
Im getting two benefits out of this experience; 1. Im getting to be a participant- observer in this entire process 2. Im have a vantage point to notice my own actions, reactions and thoughts, giving me a chance to clear away dis-ease and practice Principles better !!!
Im truly greatful for the process, and alos to know that "The fruits of a labour of love lie in the harvest, and that shall come in it's own time" (BT.).. Mots of all,Ive come to dearly love all this action,, working with others !
