I am new here and quite a bit scared. I was taken to the ER due to severe withdrawal, was detoxed for 4 days at a detox center (whatever you call them) and now out on IOPC.
I wanted desperately for there to be a meeting tonight, I feel alone.
So far I have "confessed" to a number of people close to me that I am an addict. I am only 8 days clean after all. It was hard, emotional and exhausting.
Looking for a friendly smile, go to my first group tomorrow (it's a candlelight with a speaker). I honestly can't wait, but sleeping is rough.
Can anyone give some advice to a first time user, withdrawal, detoxing...person?

Welcome to the MIP board. Your definitely in the right place. Congtrats on the 8 days! That's great. Just the word "withdrawal" makes me cringe and gives me chills. Seriously. I am glad you went to a detox center and didn't try to detox by yourself. Detoxing can be very dangerous depending on what you're detoxing off of and how much & how long. I detoxed in the hospital w/ a great medical staff and I still thought I was going to die. I was coming off of opiates, benzos, & alcohol so I had secondary withdrawals from taking Xanax for so many years. The sec wd's were the worst and I had to be hospitalized again and put on blood pressure meds 3x a day for a couple of mos. I am very fortunate though it could have been a lot worse. The physical part is bad but the emotional & mental is exhausting. Do what the Dr. says and don't isolate whatever you do. Meetings, meetings, & more meetings ... Whatever you do don't pick up and use. Please keep us posted on your progress and you will definitely be in my prayers.
Take Care, Stacey

8 days clean is HUGE!!!!!!! Now that your clean, you can start on the road to recovery. Go to meetings, introduce as a newcomer. Get and use phone numbers. Get as involved with NA as possible. Join a homegroup, volunteer for area service. And work on yourself. Get a sponsor, work the steps and keep going to meetings. The pain is past,,, now you can start to feel some of the joy that the fellowship offers.
NA WELCOMES YOU - GLAD YOU HAVE ARRIVED - NA HAS BEEN WAITING FOR YOU - AS WE WAIT FOR ANY ADDICT WHO IS TRYING TO GET CLEAN - YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE - JUST TO LET YOU KNOW WE DO RECOVER - AND OUR LIFES CHANGE FOR THE BETTER - GET A SPONSOR, GET A BOOK (READ IT) GO TO MEETINGS AND GET AN HIGHER POWER - AND DON'T PICK UP - THOSE ARE TRULY THE BASICS..WISH YOU WELL ON YOUR JOURNEY
8 days is great. The best thing I can tell you is 90 meetings in 90 days, get a sponcor to lean on, and start reading and working the steps. You will get threw it. I thought I would not be able to do this but I now have over 3 years clean and am very involved in NA. I will be praying for you.
