Overwhelming myself as a way to cope with/avoid life.

Everyone: I think I have developed a way of coping with life, and avoiding happiness, by staying not just busy but overwhelmed. I have a wonderful life and an excellent relationship and lots of friends!

Still inside the old message: Not enough, comes up.

I'm busy as hell, still sometimes getting the message: You're lazy.

I have the solutions available to me and sometimes I use them, sometimes I resist. I sat just about 30 minutes meditation this morning (after not sitting all weekend or most of last week) and tell myself not enough time, because you are lazy.

It is now 3 hours later and I'm just seeing that those are my thoughts, my old beliefs, and they are not true. The evidence would indicate that I am energetic and a good person.

I think I'll keep coming back. Missed the board last week. Not today though.

Funny you should say that.
My way of keeping the "old behaviors" and current behaviors is NOT having enough to do.
Oh well, being bored is progress for me.
I used to get depressed.

Joe,

So good to hear you and boy can I identify!  I have had glimpses that this is what Iwas doing but you just made me really get with the feeling.  Stay so busy...no time to feel.  Thanks for sharing this!

okay I am getting on a soap box
I have spent all my life avoiding it in my eyes dening it waseasier for me it was subconsious do tue my multiplicity but my mom on the other hand is the queen of denial and if she and I were to face the issues at hand instead of hiding it under the bed might be in a better place
I was told pain shared is pain lessoned take a minite brother breathe pray drink plenty of water and don't pick up no matter what apply the principles and the steps they will not fail you

Joe, Thanks for sharing that because I think that is something we can all relate too. I know I definitely can in more ways than one. Clean or sober I have always used "staying overwhelmingly busy" to NOT have to actually think or feel. To be honest though I can't say it has always been a negative approach to whatever was going on w/ me or my girls at the time. Sometimes when I can truly utilize that time by staying physically busy but not mentally obsessing about (whatever I am trying so hard to forget about) I'll have an "aha" moment or somehow the problem just kind of works itself out. It really just goes back to the basics "when I stay in God's will and out of my own head" eventually everything pretty much works out on it's own. Of course for me that's a lot easier said than done but I refuse to give up trying. Good Luck & take care.

Stacey
