This Saturday, the 17th of July,Our Saturday homegroup 'Men Do Recover"once again presents our quarterly "speaker jam" Format 2;00 p.m.. until 12:00 p.m, speakers from all around Tri-State area(NY/NJ/CONN) ,12 speakers, will share 1/2 hour each, with breaks in between and followed by a dance.(6 men /6 women) Dance usually starts after 9:00 p.m.We serve fresh fish dinners, sell 50/50 tickets and recovery merchandise is sold away from event.I will once again man the coffee commitment ,I usually go thru 6-8 pounds of coffee, and I buy old fashion Windmill maple cookies!! yummy! We charge for the dinners ,usually around $8.00 ,comes with vegetables, salad ,and bread. This quarters theme is The message is hope ,and the promise is freedom! We used to submit receipts for what we purchased but most of the members just donate the materials needed. We send most of the proceeds directly to World, rather than area.Participation is always different but would estimate at least 250-400 addicts coming and going through the day and night...Sometimes more /sometimes less.We have found this a very successful way to carry the message of recovery and share good ,clean fun and fellowship. Many "newcomers' stop in and we see them throughout the rooms in meetings following the jams.(the only drawback this weekend is ASC also putting on their event'Monkey In the woods" in upstate)I am GSR for my Monday homegroup and when I was at area a few eweeks ago it looks like participation will be shared at both events(not that far away from each other(an hour or so)Supposed to be low 80's and sunny ,so we'll have a great turnout..Let you know how it goes at weekend......
