Agoraphobia (from Greek a, "marketplace"; and /, -phobia) is an anxiety disorder, traditionally thought to involve a fear of public places and open spaces. However, it is now believed that agoraphobia develops as a complication of panic attacks.[1] But there is evidence that the implied one-way causal relationship between spontaneous panic attacks and agoraphobia in DSM-IV may be incorrect.[2] Agoraphobia may arise by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. Alternately social anxiety problems may also be an underlying cause. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia avoid public and/or unfamiliar places, especially large, open, spaces such as shopping malls or airports where there are few places to hide. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to his or her home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this safe place. Approximately 3.2 million adults in the US between the ages of 18 and 54, or about 2.2%, suffer from agoraphobia I am one of the severe cases

Thanks for sharing Manon. I hope you keep posting where you're at. Sounds like everyone really has your back on this board. I really did alot of isolating in my using days and can actually pull into it today if I don't do what was suggested when I got here.
When I came in I had alot of the symptoms you described and luckily for me as I stayed clean many of them went away. Through training in the last few years I've learned that many of the actual symptoms I faced when getting clean went away, many didn't. I don't know if it was neurological damage from the years of drug abuse or if I simply always had the symptoms and was actually trying to treat them with my drug usage.
What is important is that I keep sharing where I'm at. If I'm depressed or anxiuos I let someone know. I have a sponsor and use him regularly. In the beginning I think he got pretty irritated that he would make suggestions but I wouldn't apply them to me. He stuck with me though and kept making the same suggestions.
I still struggle with some inner turmoil today, I see a therapist when I'm struggling, I have a meeting I attend weekly, I have a spiritual program that fits will all the things I was taught in NA. I share and sponsor and try to work the program daily. No matter what I don't use.
Thanks Manon, for taking part in your own recovery!!! When we share with each other it helps all understand how their ESH could possibly help another or at least free themselves of what is on their minds.A definite "we" program!!!Good to see you posting!!!!

Hi Manon. Now that you know your diagnosis, do you know what to do about it? It sounds like the kind of thing that a shrink would want to pump you full of meds. Take care of yourself and know that you are always in our prayers.
