This is an exact copy of the mail I got from a friend at WSO/NAWS,,,,
"Hello Raman. Thank you for contacting NA World Services.
The clarity statement or identity statement, as it is sometimes called, has many variations. Most can be tied to a World Service Board of Trustees bulletin titled Some thoughts regarding our relationship to Alcoholics Anonymous, produced in 1985, and updated in 1996. While World Service bulletins are not conference-approved, they do represent the thoughts of the board at the time of their publication. The bulletin in its entirety can be found at: http://www.na.org/?ID=bulletins-bull13-r
As a part of any related discussion about using or creating a clarity statement you may be interested to know that there is not a Fellowship-Approved version of this announcement. In fact, this issue has come before the World Service Conference several times in recent years, and at the 2006 WSC the following motion was presented but was not adopted: To direct the World Board to create a project plan for the development of a fellowship-approved Identity Statement to be presented at WSC 2008.
The World Board did not support this motion. Following is their recommendation:
While we do understand that some groups include an identity statement of some kind in their meeting format because they feel that such a statement helps to clarify the language and program of NA, we do not feel it is necessary to have such a statement become the focus of a world services project. Groups who choose to use a clarity or identity statement are, of course, free to do so; the principle of group autonomy ensures that. To develop such a statement on a world level, however, could imply that all groups should read such a statement, an implication we do not support.

Two touch-points there,,, should clear away all controversy=
1. a. While we do understand that some groups include an identity statement of some kind in their meeting format because they feel that such a statement helps to clarify the language and program of NA, b. Groups who choose to use a clarity or identity statement are, of course, free to do so; the principle of group autonomy ensures that..
2. a. we do not feel it is necessary to have such a statement become the focus of a world services project. b. to develop such a statement on a world level, however, could imply that all groups should read such a statement, an implication we do not support.

Raman! thanks for being part of our support group.I learn so much when we can approach each other in a loving caring manner(kinda like loving and caring and greater than ouselves),discuss issues ,agreeing or disagreeing without being disagreeable and keeping our main focus on our primary purpose and and carrying this groups message, that an addict ,any addict can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live. One helping another, being real, honest ,but tolerant and not devisive but in the spirit of unity..Welcome home MIP!!Could we be moving toward a religious overtone now over a spiritual one??? Close to the Edge down by the River...This is a message board though and not NA! If its done in love, then love it is!!!Yipee

Our purpose is to remain clean, just for today, and to carry the message of recovery.
In 1989 I got clean in NA but everyone in my group went to AA meetings a couple of nights a week. I remember on a Sunday afternoon all the old timers were sitting around smoking cigarettes and telling stories with the elderly men and women at this particularly strong AA Group in Fort Worth. This lady sat down by me and was sharing with me, at some point she saw the nasty looking tracks in my arm, they are almost gone now but they stood out and were dark then and shaped like a Y at the crevace of my left arm. She touched them and went as far as to get a pair of bifocals out to get a good look. I could tell she was fascinated. Then she looked at me still running her finger over them and said; "I'd be ashamed, you should wear long sleeves." After that I went to a couple more meetings that she and her son who was about my age were at and they'd make a team effort to hand the basket to a guy on my left and pick it up from the guy on my right.
That was just 2 people out of the dozens that accepted me at that group. But I didn't go back for many years. At some point I came to the realization I had chosen to have a resentment and had to make effort to get over it. The main thing is, no matter where they're from I hope I never alienate someone in my group that way. No matter what they say.
it is the message not the medium i get what i need from whatever meeting i can sometimes i have to catch a 9 am meet at aa or a nooner at an na group i have run into a few that have tried to finger me on the my name is and i am an addict but by an large i have been accepted it is a few small minded sobs that have tried to be sticklers but i find that the message is what it is
