When i came home from the rehab,, the world had suddenly become a frightening place to be in. Daily attendance at meetings ( meeting makers make it), contact with recovering addicts outside of meetings thru phone, personal contact and then reading a lot of NA literature saved my day.
Then I did pray and Meditate,,,wrote a lot of thoughts and feelings down on paper too.

Making a NA meeting everyday from the first day out of my rehab/detox helped me stay grounded in an atmosphere of recovery, keeping my using thoughts at bay.
They told me in NA back then that I should keep away from slippery places, that's very true. On a couple of occasions, I've got out of detox & 29 days program, thought about my using friends, called them or visited them, not to use but with good intentions, and I went for a toss.
Also, avoiding easy transport like my bike and car (I took bus, fellowship rides and walking at times for the meetings), carrying less money (just enough for my bus tickets, a few cigarettes, for a cup of tea etc.) helped.
Showing up for a meeting early and staying back with members till late also helped.
Phone therapy works! Taking numbers from the fellowship and calling them, hanging out with members if they are free, reading IT WORKS - HOW & WHY the NA book always gave me the motivation, as also the chapters WHAT CAN I DO, JUST FOR TODAY & MORE WILL BE REVEALED from Basic Text.
Finally, there was this Power that I always kept with me, throughout the day, talked with this Power, asked for strength, complained, fought with, shouted at, thanked, prayed... although I had not worked my steps back then as a newcomer and was yet to come to believe, although I did not exactly understand or believed that there could be a Power greater than me out there, I found that having this Power by my side anyway helped, 'acting as if'
Hi Stacey, So glad you are healthy and back home. The suggestions are the same. Go to meetings, get a sponsor and call her, pray, read NA literature and work the steps. Of vital importance is to make a commitment to your recovery. We all have lives, and those lives along with our own self centered fears can interfere with our program. But only if we let them. If we recognize that staying clean is our number one priority in life, then we will find a way to get to a meeting, we'll make that call to our sponsor, we'll pick up the pencil and write on that next step, and so on. My sponsor says it's all about willingness. If you are willing to follow the program, it will work. Stacey, I have thought of you often. I can't tell you how delighted I am that you have joined us once again. No matter what.... KEEP COMING BACK!!!
Glad you are back - I am way in Alaska - and the solutions don't change - go to meetings, read the literature, get a sponsor, work the steps with a sponsor and don't take nothing. This shit is universal - We don't have to use again..
Avid it's so great hearing from you. how are things w/ you? Hope all is well. I went to treatment for my very first time last summer but I came home after 6 wks. I had never been away from my girls and the guilt was too much that time. That's when I found this board. Anyway, to make a long story short... I needed a couple of more months to be able to deal w/ everything so i went back to finish up my 3 mos. My problem is that I've got to get over the fear and go to meetings here at home by myself even. I am getting there so wish me luck!

Hi Stacey, you can also check out online NA meetings available round-the-clock nowadays. They've done me a lot of good, especially after my last relapse 6 years back. I literally stayed there in these meeting/chat rooms, I was carried by many loving and caring members through my first few days clean at these online meeting rooms...
Hey Stacey. You have a great opportunity right now to shape new patterns in your life. The literature tells us that at the root of our disease is self centered fear. You are not alone. In NA you are never alone. Here is a link to the NA website where you can find your local area helpline. Call it. I'm sure you will find someone who will take or meet you at a meeting so you can feel more comfortable. Please give yourself a break and go to a meeting. The sooner the better. Oh, and luck had nothing to do with it. Prayer and action are the keys.
Polartorch, Thank you for your incredibly wise & supportive replies. The members have been amazing. I am so grateful to have this found this board. It's a big part of my recovery. I get much out of reading the posts and learning so many different ways to deal w/ life. I have zero coping skills right now so I thrive on reading about about how other people in recovery are deaing w/ their issues and finding solutions. It's a great outlet! Hope your having a good day!

Good morning! Thanks so much for the ph #. I was actually getting on line to see what time the meetings were in Jacksonville today so it was pretty cool that you already had the num. You were dead on about the whole fear thing. It was extremely difficult for me to come to terms with the fact that I am full fear about so many things. I seriously didn't think I was afraid of anything except really scary movies. lol So on that note... I am going to find a meeting today and just go.

We all havea 100 forms of fear LOL thats AA but it applies to us too. I have always lived with fear being my driving force it kept me from so much and made me insane.
Turn fear into Faith and courage , trust in a higher power to guide and direct your life.
Hey there Raman! How's everything w/ you? It's so great being able to read your posts again. Thanks for the support. For so long the HP concept was such a struggle for me in so many ways but now it's like i am finally coming to terms with the realization that it's whatever i need it to be. Accepting & surrending has brought such peace to my heart and day by day the screaming in my head is slowly becoming a whisper. I can actually pray now without feeling so guilty. Hope you have a safe & happy weekend.
