QOD 3/6/10

What do you do with a sponsee who has been in and out for years and
simply won't follow suggestions? How do you let a sponsee go?

Hey Tisa! How you doing??? BigV and I responded to that on 3/03/10 and Im going stick with my blather!!!But that being said being "let go" from your sponsorship does not mean that addict should be forsaken or considered a lost cause. We do always say"keep coming back"!! A new relationship with another recovering addict  may help the person "stick and stay"!!(but only if the 'DESIRE" IS THERE)smile

Hey !Tisa and BIGV!

After speaking with my grandsponsor and doing some praying and some 10th step work I do believe that we should never terminate a sponcee.I try and live my life God based and I would not want  my God to terminate me.,Having said that ,I believe that the sponcee will decide if they want you for a sponsor or not.Plus in  our literature,WHAT CAN I DO,it says sponsorship for the newcomer(just coming back) is the responsibility of the group. It says it is implied and informal in its approach but it is the heart of N.A. way of recovery from addiction-one addict helping another. The sponsorship pamphlet in our program stipulates some ideas and suggestions but sponsorship in this fellowship differs somewhat from other fellowships just as approach to step work does.12TH tells us that sometimes the only message to help the suffering addict reach out is the power of example. It also says in Recovery and Relapse NA is about people who care about desperate dying addicts and who can ,in time, teach them how to live without drugs! Some people /sponsors do terminate there relationships,my personnal beliefs after really praying about it and thinking of how this is  a God" centered program I would let the sponcee find another sponsor before I would let them go...(without resentments). They'll be many takes on this but these are my thoughts..smile

I have only sponsored one person,he was the guy I used with for 39 years. He got arrested ,went to drug court ,had to go to meetings. He asked me to sponsor him.He would ask me to forge his meeting sheet for the court, which I would not do.I told him I wanted twenty dollars for each signature,he screamed at me.He would not do step work or write on any questions I gave him or even answer me with a truthful answer. You cannot lie to the one you used with.I had to let him go as a friend and sponsee,it"s not good for my cleantime. If he asks me I would sponsor him rather than go to his funeral,he is headed in that direction.

Hey cdbuckberry! HOW YOU DOING.iN MY 3/3/10 POST i HAD A LITTLE DIFFERENT FEELINGS BASED ON HOW i SET SPONSORSHIP UP FOR ME BUT ONE OF THE FIRST REASONS FOR TERMINATION THAT I THOUGHT ABOUT WAS EXACTLY "IF ITS DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR RECOVERY.ITS A THIN LINE BUT MY MORE PREVIOUS THOUGHTS ARE THE WAY I WILL GO,IF THEY ARE NOT FOLLOWING SUGGESTIONS,DOING THE WORK,LIVING IN THE PROBLEM AND NOT THE SOLUTION ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THET ARE GONE FROM US..SORRY FOR CAPS ITS EARLY A.M. HERE AND DIDNT SEE LETTERS...PEACE MAN.....smile
