I've been clean for about 8 months now and I was put into this relapse prevention group and I am assigned a project to do. I'm suppose to make a poster about what my road to recovery is and I have no idea what to do. I've been thinking and I really don't know what to do. I've pretty much done my recovery on my own since there wasn't a rehab that would take me. I've never been to an NA meeting and this is the first group I have ever been in and I have only attended it once. Tomorrow will be my second time and I have to present this poster and I feel like I'm going to end up presenting a blank poster because I don't know what to put on it. All I have on it so far is in big bold letters "My Road To Recovery." I would be greatful if someone could help me in the right direction for this assignment. Thank You.
Deschon!Welcome I am glad you found us..The first thing I would discuss is that there is a major difference between "abstinence from drug use" and recovery.Abstinence deals with putting down the drug,Recovery includes understanding about "addiction" a physical ,mental and spiritual disease that pervades "all areas of our lives!I would highly suggest making a NA meeting, listening to suggestions and find out how we developed"a new way to live"It is very important to understand the readings of the program,'WHO IS AN ADDICT,WHAT IS THE NA PROGRAM,WHY ARE WE HERE,HOW IT WORKS(12 STEPS)(12)TWELVE TRADITIONS.We talk of sponsorship, working steps and traditions(the solutions)sharing how you feel, making meetings as the process to recovery....Readings talk about recovery thru the 12 steps being our goal and not just abstinence. You can go to NA.ORG and pull up information on the program. You can work your poster and work a "program' at the same time..others here know how to put sites on the forum here and I am sure will be willing to offer their suggestions and point you to the sites.Congratulations on 8 months "clean" any DAY CLEAN FOR AN ADDICT IS A MIRACLE..Start putting that time into 'RECOVERY" AND SKY'S THE LIMIT ,A NEW WAY TO LIVE..Come in from the storm now, take suggestions,do some work, get a sponsor, make meetings ,you'll be making posters all over the place but better yet 'the message will be hope and the promise will be freedom from active addiction!!!Your poster could read""My Road to Recovery based on the 12 steps and 12 traditions of the Narcotics Anonymous program!!Man that poster looks better already!!!!:) peace let us know how your doing!!!

Thank you. I read my "Just For Today" everyday and I get it sent to my email everyday and I've worked on my 12 step but only with myself since I've been going thru this by myself. I don't have a sponser but there are people that I can call if I get into a situation or end up really needing someone. And the NA meeting thing I don't go to because I don't like having to speak in front of other people and yeah. I'm at a lose for words now. Sorry.
Hey DeSchon! Remember we do not give advise we suggest what has or has not helped us in our recoveries. One addict helping another!!..You have to be honest with yourself and evaluate where you fit in this picture.I can tell you, from experience, that self sponsorship is doomed for failure.Recovery begins with surrender. As far as sharing ,you really just need to show up and no one will force you to say anything, but our literature does tell us that" at first we were captivated and intimidated by the fellowship. We were no longer comfortable with our using friends but not yet at home in meetings. We begin to lose our fear by sharing and the more we shared the more our fears slipped away.Identify with the disease, don't compare, know your disease...If you have looked at the spiritual principles of the program ,then you are aware that in order to come to the first step you have to search yourself. It will do no harm to just show up,feel the love and take it from there. You have to want recovery,no one can do it for you.Keep coming back ,I can feel you reaching out and thats good. This is a "WE' program and you don't ever again have to do this alone..Hope to hear more from you........

Your in a relapse prevention group? So am I, it's called Narcotics Anonymous and it's helped hundreds of thousands of addicts prevent relapse since 1953. My "road to recovery" poster would be a drawing of a highway that has two signs. One pointing down would say "relapse" the other pointing up would say "recovery" On the road itself I would have an arrow pointing to recovery with Narcotics Anonymous written alongside it. Sounds like a fun and useful project Good luck with it and your recovery Yall come back now...hear?
