I am duely addicted and have been a member of AA for two and a half yrs but have never dealt with my drug issues. As a result I am returning from a drug relapse that ended on Jan 14/10. I always told myself that if I stayed away from the booze that I would be able to handle the rest, but I see I was just fooling myself. I'm feeling a lot of regret and ashamed of my downfall. I also have a boyfriend who has thrown my relapse in my face when he gets angry & now I'm having troubles feeling as though I could confide in him...there's so much more but will wait for the meeting tonight, although I am sopose to attend an AA meeting tonight (the whole social aspect thing) but would really like to see what this forum has to offer...
Hello Gerryleigh! Welcome to the family. It is good to see you are aware as an addict that it is our 'reaction to the drug" not how much or what we use that is the cause of our addiction..The real regret would be if you "didnt make it back to program..Your recovery must come first in all situations so I hope you instill that in your process..We are a group of people sharing their strength ,hope and experience with each other and suggesting what has and has not worked for us.Take what you need and leave the rest..I would highly suggest you stay connected, make meetings, share as if your life depends on it, and "get honest" with yourself on the exact nature of whats going on with you..Alcohol is a drug but you have to find what process works for you.Are you working steps with a sponsor as you have been a member of AA for almost 3 years?Spiritual principles of the steps are the solution but it takes work...Keep coming back, there are many here who will share their suggestions and ESH with you...peace

Welcome!! I know many AA groups view Alcohol as separate from drugs, and will only deal with issues regarding addiction to drink. Here in NA it clearly states in our literature that "Alcohol is a drug" and "we must abstain from all drugs" in order to recover. Our disease is the disease of addiction and that is what we recover from, one day at a time. AA brought the world the 12 steps of recovery and our basic text expresses gratitude to AA members for helping get NA started. But we are not substance specific, and that is an important difference IMHO. Don't beat yourself up. Give yourself a break and try our program and this forum to see if it's a good fit. You are welcome here anytime. Good luck. donM
