From a recovery perspective, I joined a step study group. It's a 50 mile round trip. It always starts late and I get home at a time when I'm usually already in bed. But it is the best recovery oriented activity I attend all week.
Offering the donation of certain skills/time to a non-profit recovery center board; I've avoided being tied to a committment like that since I moved up here, though I used to do it all the time before I left VA. Like w/Avid, it's a long round-trip that disrupts my schedule, sleep and balance a bit, so there is actually some risk in that, even tho it's a good thing.
