Depression

I've been coming in and out of the rooms for 12 years.Longest I had clean was 1 year.
my main drug was weed anyways basically my question is does anyone here suffer from depression and take anti-depressants for it.I've been clean for 5 months and life seems pretty pointless to me if im just gonna feel miserable everyday and empty.I know if I continue to feel this way im not gonna make it clean for long.I know the drugs is not gonna make it any better either but damn at least ill have some form of happyness.Theres nothing going on in my life wrong that I should be feeling this way so if anyone has any success storys with anti-depressants id like to hear it.I've been diagnoised with dythemic disorder before.Just looking for some type of hope thanks

I know people who have responded very well to anti depressants but I was not one of them.
I have been dealing with depression for many many years.
I found the one thing that lifted me out of it more than anything else was when I decided to live a moral life. I used to shoplift little things, I would often posture to try and impress, I would exaggerate my importance, I would lie, and other things that were dishonest.
I had told this to my sponsor and he urged me to stop. It took a little time to do so but I never shoplift anything anymore, I don't lie, I sometimes exaggerate, and don't always act with the highest purpose, but my life is basically pretty honest.
It gave me back some self respect and lifted me from the worst of my depression and anxiety.
I still have depression and anxiety but things are better. Much better.
I truly believe that the answer for me is the 12 steps of Narcotics anonymous.
I hope my experience is helpful.

The feeling you are experiencing is what led me to start using. I couldn't focus to get anything done so I became depressed at times. Not being able to keep up with everyday tasks due to inability to focus is manageable but at times it's horrible for me.

Anti-depressants didn't work for me either. I felt groggy and maintained a basically neutral kind of mood. Since those didn't work and my other option is psycho stimulants, I'm still searching for the one thing that will help with my focus problem. Have you looked into changing your diet and starting an exercise regimen? Exercise does wonders for me when I'm depressed. I also find that chatting with my sponsor and my friends helps too. Above all, keep going to meetings, working the steps and your spirituality.

I have been taking Prozac for years! I am just a bitch without it. I tried getting off of it 2 years ago but had a terrible time. With all of the stressors out there in life, it is a good thing. I found that I was not only unhappy and crying all the time but I was yelling at my kids for no apparent reason.
it won't hurt to try it and Prozac is not expensive like some of the other newer meds out there.
Wellbutrin is a great medication for the addict in us. I feel best when I can take both of them.
Contact your physician and talk about it. Be honest with him/her about your addiction.
What do you have to loose?
