The God of your understanding works for people who don't believe in religion.It could be the birds out in the tree in your front yard,it could be the power of the wind.It is something to belive in like ourselves to let the recovery in to help us.I have two God in religion and a God of my understanding.
To not exclude anyone for differing beliefs, also for those like myself who grew up with unhealthy and innefective ideas about "God", and also for the atheists and agnostics.

Although I have my own very strong faith beliefs,it is important for those to be able'to choose" their own concept of God in order to get help they need.We must be able to turn our lives over as our 2nd step tells us "this step is necessarry to achieve ongoing recovery!We can then turn our will and lives over in 3rd step"to the God 'we understand>There is literature that poises the question"do we now believe or even willing to believe in a power greater than ourselves? ,when we can answer yes we do or are willing to believe then an effective spiritual base can be founded .It can be called God!
