Thanks giving is related to the Harvest Festival and seems to have begun on a plantation in
New England sometime in 1691 and has stayed as american tradition ever since.
Canada celebrates this too, but on the 1st Monday of october. My mother had experienced a grand lunch at my aunts, when she lived in Canada about 10 years ago. Moreover, having all my relatives live in the US where they immigrated many years ago, I cant help but be influenced.

Im Indian, but I seem to have also been influenced by my sponsor of 15 years ago, a mainland American who had guided me through the Steps. He had come t omy town, we got started on the 4th and I took all of 2 years to complete and have never had to do a 4th again.
And the funny thing in India is that these Western things are becoming marketable events with large profits, like Valentines, Thanksgiving etc. And my sponsor was a guy that celebrated every american fest.

All of my family live in the US and have been living there for many years now,, all contributing professionals to american economy and cultrual contributors to us society and I supose I have bee influenced by them too.

Put your money where your mouth is, he'd said and ever since Ive tried to remember that day and do that. Basically my sponsor had suggested  to get out of onself.;  and this day I went out and carried out his suggestion, to practice two acts of sharing, other than NA related.

So off I go, after making a  great mental effort to first the Hallamshire hospitals  charity shop and bought 100 dollars of stuff, including two collectible compacts, one for ma and another for my daughter. This I did in appreciation for the care and comfort that this wonderful hospital and its specialist staff gave me in 6 months of sucessful treatment. And by Gods Grace, I had the willingness to spend from my very limited funds. This is a small token of my gratitude for the services given me, that would have otherwise costed upwards of 20000us.
Though I did not expect it, I was truly gratified when the two old english ladies, past 70 , said
"God Bless you, you made our day". Then they said this sale would ensure they had enough to do their activities for the day for the needy patients. I asked God to Bless them for their efforts, thankful I could chip in with my little bit too.

Then I go on back home and share my time and chocolates with another guy that lives in this lodge. He is from Poland, a nice young kind and we shared how life is in our varied countries.

Then its back to packing and I now recount that I must have said Hi or Hello to at least 100 people on the street., just to feel connected to humanity and the world outside.This is the same world that I once rejected and who rejected me in turn. There seems to be acceptance of who I really am and what I do on society ! NA at work.
