Hey all! This is my first post to the board, and I hope someone can offer some advice.
I'm speaking at a celebration tonight at my home group, and I've been thinking... everyone there has heard my story, some more than once, and quite honestly I'm a little bored with telling it over and over to the same peeps, so I was thinking... would it be ok if I picked some topic and shared on that and of course my experience, strenght, and hope concerning the topic? And if so, any ideas?
I dont believe its necessary to always tell 'your" story when speaking.I also am a big fan if celebration is for someone else to briefly let people know where your at and try and reflect on the celebrant.I have been at many celebrations where person is asked to speak, they go on aimlessly with their story and never really even acknowlege the celebrant??I always first let people know that I will take a brief few seconds to get God centered instead of self centered and let what I say come from my heart!I also try and relate to any newcomers by some part of my ESH. Good luck tonight it is an honor to ber asked to be part of anyones celebration.enjoy!! nice meeting you..mike

lemontrail,Just start speaking what ever comes out will be straight from the heart and maybe even better than your own regular story you share.I found I share a lot better when away from my home area.
Welcome, Lemontrail! If I was asked to give my "lead" then that is what I would do, but if only asked to "speak" then it is my opinion that any recovery topic would be fine.
