Hi, my name is Jennifer and I'm an addict. I've been clean for 7 days now, and I'm starting to get lonely. My fiance is in jail for child support, I live with my parents with 2 of my 6 children, and I have a lack of transportation to attend meetings. I could really use the fellowship right now, as I said I feel alone.
I relapsed over a year ago and it took my fiance going to jail for me to get clean. He is obviously clean now as well. But I am more worried about myself than anyone else right now. See, I'm bipolar and I self-medicate myself. I do currently take meds for this, but I feel as if my meds are confusing me. I want to know if I'm "really" bipolar or if it's just from not using anymore. It's a tough call and I know it's dangerous to stop my meds.
As I said, "I'm lonely". I have been holding back tears, and anger for the past week. My family doesn't understand what I'm going through and that's what makes it so tough. I have children to take care of, but I need to take care of myself in order to take care of them. I have tried to call old friends from past NA meetings, but they have all beeen disconnected. So here I am looking for fellowship in NA.
Jen welcome..... and congratulations on your 7 days!!!! one suggestion; see a professional regarding your condition/medication. We are not doctors, just people like you who suffer from a disease and want to get better. If you ever need someone to talk to , i am here
Hi, Brown Eyed Girl! I'm so glad you shared with us. If you have the willingness, a way can be found. You are already making a great start! Congrats on your 7 days! That is fantastic! The very fact that you are looking for help is great and shows that you do have the willingness that is so critical to recovery. KEEP COMING BACK!
I, too, am a biploar addict. I, too, wondered in early recovery whether my symptoms were real biploar or drug-induced. I took my meds for a full year in recovery, and thought I was OK to stop taking them. Within 6 months I had relapsed.
Now, I'm not saying that you are bi-polar or that you are not... that is what we have mental health professionals for.
My suggestion is that you are completely open and honest with your mental health team about your addiction and recovery.
I also suggest doing a search online to see if you can find out if your Area has an NA hotline. If there is, they may be able to get you a phone number or two to get rides.
You can find out where local meetings are , also. If you can get your parents to get you to one meeting, you can get phone numbers for rides while there.
