NEW--saying Hi.

Hi Everyone,

I am new here, and I wanted to say Hi. I am struggling with addiction, and trying to get clean. I am a fully functioning OC addict, and I know that term seems like an oxymoron, but my problem has only recently gotten bad. I do about 2 a night, I cannot do them during the day because of work, so I know my addiction is not as bad compared to others, but it is draining my bank account and and I just cant keep up anymore. Days I do not have work I spend in bed, sleeping for hours and hours. I am not the person I used to be; a few years ago I was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called ITP, and had to be treated with chemo last summer. I was not given any pain medication, so I self medicated with the OC's and my addiction built up. I am looking to stop this nasty habbit, and take it one day at a time. I am sure talking with others who have been in my sitaution with really help!

HI MGR  Welcome to mip.  Glad you made it .

NA is a nonprofit Fellowship or society of men and women for
whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering
addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. This is
a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. There is only
one requirement for membership, the desire to stop using. We
suggest that you keep an open mind and give yourself a break.
Our program is a set of principles written so simply that we can
follow them in our daily lives. The most important thing about
them is that they work.
There are no strings attached to NA. We are not affiliated
with any other organizations, we have no initiation fees or
dues, no pledges to sign, no promises to make to anyone. We are
not connected with any political, religious or law enforcement
groups, and are under no surveillance at any time. Anyone may
join us, regardless of age, race, sexual identity, creed, religion or
lack of religion.
We are not interested in what or how much you used or who
your connections were, what you have done in the past, how
much or how little you have, but only in what you want to do
about your problem and how we can help. The newcomer is the
most important person at any meeting, because we can only
keep what we have by giving it away. We have learned from our
group experience that those who keep coming to our meetings
regularly stay clean.

KEEP COMING BACK

Welcome mgr!

Glad you found us..I also spent "25 years as a functioning addict"(when I wasnt locked up,in a mental institution or devasted from my affairs).our text says "we admitted we were powerless over our addiction ,our life has become unmanageable"!I suggest you  Identify with the disease of addiction" and dont compare it to anothers, it will shed a different light on "i,m not as bad as others" We all end up in the same place in active addiction, jails ,institutions or death, some  just get there faster than others!! Find a meeting place, find people in recovery and Keep coming back...nice meeting you......smile

Ya! What they said! LOL!

My addiction tries to seperate and isolate me from others:

"I'm not as bad as so-n-so"
"At least I never did *something horrible*"
"I still work and pay bills, I must not be as bad as all them..."

It tries to disqualify me from recovery any way it can...

GLAD your here!!! I am also an opiate addict-I had 11 knee surgeries, so I self medicated ALL the time. One led to four, four led to six so on and so forth. Before I knew it I was in way over my head. Riding a roller coaster I couldn't get off of-even though at the end I wanted to. There is a lot of help here. I am so glad you're here. I agree with Tisa, it tries to to isolate and seperate-For me, that is sure relapse.
