I don't know about you, but for me, music works like an emotional amplifier. If I'm sad, then listen to sad songs for hours on end, I become depressed. If I'm mad n listen to angry music, I become enraged.

Soothing music can blunt anxiety and anger for me, and happy music can lighten depression.

Theres a wonderful story that has been attributed to the Native American Cherokee Indians. The story is about a boy who tells his grandfather that he is feeling very angry and upset. The grandfather explains to the boy that he too sometimes feels angry but also he often feels very happy. The grandfather says it is as if there are two wolves battling inside him. One is very angry, aggressive and acts out of fear. This wolf wants to fight all the time. The other wolf is happy, playful, and only wants to make friends and live in peace. But the two wolves are constantly battling inside. The little boy asks: which wolf wins?
And the grandfather replies: the one I feed.

Music is food for your inner wolves... be careful which you feed.

When I was using I had a saying I used often concerning music.  " you know your f**ked when every song on AM radio is about you."   Music has always be very important to me.  Like a mini time capsule songs can instantly take me back to other times in my life . Some of those times were not so good.

As a player ( not a good one no )  and a listener Ive really gained a good appreciation of music as the art I believe it was meant to be.  The songs are extentions of the artists and artists can be a bit moody.  So if a song makes me feel anything at all then in my eyes its art and is valid.   Art is not meant to make us feel happy joyous and free all the time .  Sometimes its depressing . sad, angry  .  It lets us see that these artists are human just like us .  These days much solace comes from old blues.
