I once read that "guru" is sanskrit...

that "gu" means darkness, and that "ru" means light... as in
"out of darkness, into the light"

Don't know if it's true or not, but I liked it... that makes us all gurus!!!

Well if I may opine, that is correct Tisa.

One of the most outstanding themes in my recovery has been the intense desire or craving to be in the Light and enjoy as much of life as I could without having to use drugs.
And because I did not know how, I had to take the guidance of those addicts that had already been there and done that. They were Guru, not that they knew it all or said anything to that effect. They were guru to me because they had the willingness to share experience, strength and hope with me about living problems and their solutions!

The sanskrit meaning is also teacher, imparter of knowledge. therefore, they taught me through sharing their experience of staying clean and serene in the 12 Step Program of NA.

Yes indeed, al of us are gurus. Each time we carry the message to the addict that still suffers outside and inside the rooms, we are carrying out that task.

Having said that, we need to go a little deeper into this here.
Ultimately it is all to be attributed to the 12 Step Tradition of NA recovery.
This is  because we believe in Principles before personalities,
Therefore  the 12Step Tradition Concept is the real Guru.

That is the sort of theory that has emerged from my own recovery and from what I observed about the recovery of those that I had formed close associations with.

thanks for letting me act guru, in the course of the day a guru will come my way to and I will have new knowledge !!

Ha, ha, ha Tisa, all you have to do is read Deans previous posts to know that he is a very responsible and productive member of society and is truly a sound guru, unlike me who is quite eccentric, given to impulse at times etc.
