New to recovery

Hi everyone.   I just Got out of rehab.  I am trying to make a new life and start fresh. Just wondering about my life and wondering if I can make it.    I am just out of a 90 day rehab for crack cocaine.  I am not around my old crowd but I need some love and support to stay clean.

My two-cent's worth...several approaches come to mind: (1) bring it out in the open as a general discussion topic (13th step and newcomers); (2) stay for the business meeting and bring it up there (3) print out some "business cards" on your computer that say "Don't hit on me...not interested." Then don't say a word when you're getting the moves-just hand 'im your card and walk away!

Hi Keli A!
wELCOME..Are there any just women groups around your area? Lee's ideas are cool, like to see some faces after they got a card.I belong to 'Men do Recover'   a mens only group discussing mens issues.Things we would probably not bring up at mixed meetings. I also have a home group New Daze that is a mixed meeting. Not saying you only need womens group but just ensure you are getting "meetings for your recovery. Here we have 'WOMEN WITH wISDOM THAT MEET RIGHT BEFORE OUR MENS GROUP ,..Usually though these groups meet less than everyday meetings throughout the area..keep comin back ,congrats on your clean time...

Welcome home keli! Just a few things that work for me. Work the steps, get a sponcer, go to meetings, and join in the fun at NA functions. You cant believe the love at the tables. I just had 2 year clean and I have the best friends in the world. Get a phone list and call if you need too. It is important to stay busy. Change people, places, and things. This is how my recovery works for me. Glad to see you have come home!

Thanks for all the advice. Some of you guys are very nice here. Others, reading thru your posts, don't seem like nice people. Is there a moderator here at this site to keep everyone nice to each other?

My problem is I get too close to people too quickly and people take advantage of me. It seems I'm always in bad relationships and I am just uncomfortable because all the people at my group are always asking me to go for a cup of coffee after the meeting, to talk about things I'm sure, but also I always think they are hitting on me. I am working on changing the people, places and things in my life. I am trying to stay busy. I got a new job working at a store as a bakery clerk, but I just want the same things that every one else wants: some one to love, a good job, a life, a family and when I get on the cocaine habit, I destroy everything. The people at my group are nice people, but if I get around someone who is using I don't know if I can resist and last time I used I almost killed myself.

Welcome Keli , I am one of the moderators here and I do very little other then chase off a few swear words and sometimes remind people not to bicker back n fourth, though I get a bit tangled in it myself at times.

SO you should avoid what you know your not ready to handle being around active users , I dont even put myself there, dont like being around people using drugs I am around some social drinking but not drunken partys and people unless I'm there to 12 step someone, help them in other words, goes with user too.

Anyhow stay close in your after care and get to the meetings and meet people and listen in the meetings how others use this program to stay clean, learning from others is very important and getting information and using there experience to help you stay clean is important.

You had the desire to stop got through treatment now just dont throw it all away, use this program to avoid using and in time it will get easier its just an adjustment time and its going to be uncomfortable but this too shall pass.

Keli!! I'm so glad you are here:) i know it can be uncomfortable sometimes... try to stick with the women after meetings. It's good to fellowship after the meetings, getting to know people in the rooms is vital to recovery and it can be fun if you open your mind to it. Try to focus on the things that are the same between you and others when they share instead of the differences. For the annoying guys hitting on you? I just politely tell people "I'm workin on me right now" or "I'm tryin' to stick with the women" It gets easier to deal with it as you begin to feel more comfortable in the rooms. A sponsor can really help by introducing you to people she trusts and has seen work a recovery program...... If you have any questions or just want to talk, hit me up my email address is alyqat4@yahoo.com... Cute pic by the way!!!
