4 years ago i went and got myself treatment because i felt like i was getting out of control on how much pain medication i was taking. I was going thru a divorce and just kept taking more and more to numb myself. Well i did well for a long time then i injured my back real bad (actually broke it) and my Dr prescribes me 80mg oxycodone 3 times a day now. I have my new wife lock it up and give it to me as prescribed. But my question is that my ex wifr found out i am taking the medicine again and is taking me to court to try and take my kids from me until i do a 16 week drug program. She is just assuming that i am abusing them again. But i am not, i learned my lesson the last time and my wife does a good job at giving them to me like it says. Can i actually get in trouble for taking these again? My opinion is that there is going to be times in our lifes that we have to take pain meds again. My Dr says that this is the only pain med he will give me because of my injury and that the meds are time released. If i don't take my medicine i can not do normal everyday things. Please any advice will be great. I do not want to lose my kids over this. Can they actually punish us for things we did in the past. Thanks for any answers.
Hi nabbm, You right at the centre of an issue, if I may say so. There seem to be no clear answers and this is a grey area. Just so I can give you support on this issue, reading the pamphlet "In times of illness" may clear the doubt. Also, we have learnt in NA to hand over problems to professionals and if your ex's hassling warrants the use of a lawyer then so be it. In my own recovery I was confronted with deciding to take professional help and it has solved all problems regarding divorce, alimony and child custody, so that I am now a happy parent of a delightful 13 year old female. The wisdom of the Fellowship far outweighs all the challenges thrown at us.

don't think she has any legal grounds at all, as long as you have medical documentation re: the validity of the protocol you are on (just an informal opinion based on some past experience)
