i just saw on the news that some middle school kids were eating morning glory seeds to get high. they say that it has an LSD type effect. its now considered a narcotic. and you have to be 18 to buy flower seeds. isnt that ridiculous? geeze.

Yep...but actually old news darlin'...this was one of the wannabe highs of the 60's-and the seeds were banned back then. The issue is not the banning of the "fun", the issue is protecting the still developing brains of the young.
Think about it this way...better to not sell it to teens & tweenies than poison it, like was done with marijuana back then...the plants were sprayed with a bad chem called paraquat.
We former druggies often don't "believe" the research and current knowledge about our substances, especially the less "hard" stuff. Ya gotta be old like me to appreciate the truth to the science: especially the long term brain damage (lottsa learning deficits and cognitive problems, especially with memory and math). Or have a child who's brain and motor coordination are so f***d up because mom was such a garbage head alkie that the docs could tell as early as elementary school what difficulties lay ahead for the child of the addict. Keeping in mind, that this damage is relatively subtle and tends to be overlooked and undertreated.
..oh, here's another tidbit from the 60's...there was a type of mold spore that infected bundles of pot in certain parts of the US growth regions...caused an atypical tuberculosis that was highly resistant to treatment...and lung disease is no fun. You can wow 'em in treatment with at least two reasons why pot might be bad for the bod...but if the counselors are real young and not from the life, they may not know this stuff themselves. Ask them about qualudes and math skills, or huffing and the brain.
My point...actually, not making it easy for kids to wash their gray matter in toxins isn't as ridiculous as it might seem. (Of course, on the other hand, I don't personally think you can legislate against every harmful practice...better to educate.)
Rant for the day (Lee's in DC at a national conference & bored ...gotta go!) Have a great day, Liz :)

Lots of things will give an affect. In essence it's a toxin that the plant produces in order to protect itself. It's the same with coffee beans although most won't make you trip.
