I am flustered and nervous because for the next month I will be in IOP with who knows how many ppl and that makes me scared because I don't do well with ppl not face to face that is why I have friends via the internet it is easier this way but at the same time i have to learn to socialize at an age appropriate level I have to finish this IOP in order to see my son alone again so it is important that I do this I am just scared I won't be able to finish due to another mental breakdown I am clean now and not using anything of anyform except what I am supposed to so here is the plan I go to IOP from 9 to 12 then to the gym to swim for an hoour and sit in the hot tub for another then to the chiropractor so hopefully if I stick to that I will be okay

If It were me............Wake up at 5 get to the pool by 5:45 get your swim on HARD. If your swimming daily 500 to 1500 yards is reasonable.Depends on how much you swim. Then your hot tub . get yourself cleaned up and get to your meetings. After the meeting go to your chiro. The Idea is exhaust your body . Your mind will calm itself. Good luck.. But try the excercise BEFORE the stress trigger.

what great advice! i have a little bit to add to that, if i may: someone asked me, last time around in the program for me (this has always stuck with me), what lengths was i willing to go to for my disease?-in my using, that is (answer: ANY, almost without reservation). i was told that we have to be ready to do the same for our recovery if we want this to work. well, just for today, that's what i am personally doing...it's 5:46 am as we speak and i'm drinking some coffee and then on my way out the door to pick someone up for the 6:30 mtg. i'm seriously not trying to toot my own horn here (maybe a little lol) but did i want to get up at 5:30? um...hell no. i'm tired. i stayed up too late and didnt' get much sleep. but, i'll take a nap later when my baby does. anyway, for today, i'm planning on going to any lengths to stay sober. what you said reminded me of that. i have to be willing to take direction from people in the program and go to any lenghts to beat this thing, if i really want it. thanks for re-iterating (sp?) that Rachel
IOP will help and will be easier than you think! I know for me that was a eye opening event. I too have a hard time meeting new ppl. The meetings make it easy because no one is judging you. They all have the same or similar problems. It will become second nature once you start. Ill say a prayer for you.
The one thing I find is that when I am so scared of something and I go through it, it's almost NEVER as bad as the FEAR was. In fact usually good things come. You know that, too ; )
I like the phrase "take it easy", because that helps the Fear go away.
It may be an outside issue, but I have been through some pretty rough mental stuff. That was after 10 years clean. I am still clean, but found some helpful doctors... It also helped to find some folks in recovery with similar issues -- people who had been through it. The biggest help was people saying: you WILL get through this, you WILL get through this ... and I did. You will too.
