When I actively participate in becoming the best person I can be, I start attracting people of like mind. Now instead of relationships based on dishonesty, lust or selfishness, I have ones that create spiritual growth with humility, empathy and love. Love is no longer something i need to go and obtain. It is inside me and only by giving it unconditionally do I receive it the way God intended. By allowing myself to be vulnerable with the right people, I have the opportunity to be inspired and my life enriched rather than compromised. I owe this to God and to myself.
You maynt imagine how good it feels to read wisdoms,, especially sitting here,,12000 miles away from home and family and a large network of friends and associates and collegues. Trying to give my studies the best shot I can,,with my books, laptop, and antiques and clothes for company. And yes theres another very Powerful Presence here too,,yes you guessed,,GOD !!

Thanks, Allie, your post is beautiful and very moving.
As my recovery has progressed, I have come to my own understanding of the disease, the Program, and the recovery process. "In a nutshell," here it is: The core of my disease is self-obsession. The steps facilitate spiritual growth. Spiritual growth moves me along a path away from the self-centeredness of the disease toward God-centeredness and service to others. The end of all spiritual growth is to learn to love. The essence of Step 12 is to live the principle of unconditional love. When I carry this message to addicts, I am loving others. When I practice these principles in all my affairs, I am loving myself. Therefore, Recovery, as I experience it through the twelve steps, is a journey that takes me from the emptiness and loneliness of self-indulgence and extreme self-centeredness, to the fullness of self-awareness and love of fellow man. Thank You, NA...

The first place I can start the process of learning to love is with all of you here in the fellowship. I realize now that I can do lots better than I'm doing right now. As we say in NA, my gratitude speaks when I CARE... the NA way... Unconditional love is quite difficult to practice for this addict, but I know for sure from having seen others and from my own experiences that the Steps do make it possible, that it works. Glad I received this message again today. I will have to consciously keep aware of this message I guess...
