Meaning of Merry Christmas

The word "Merry" is simple to define. It unquestionably means to be happy, joyful and light-hearted. The word "merry" fits into the ambiance of laughter and frivolity.

The World Book Encyclopedia defines "Christmas" as follows: "The word Christmas comes from "Cristes Maesse", an early English phrase that means "Mass of Christ." (1)

The word "Mass" in religious usage means a "death sacrifice."

"Merry Christmas"= "Merry death of Christ"

When i first read that I was sorta depressed and then I thought about the meaning of Christ's death and the souls this act has saved.

This could get very deep , philosphical, opinionated etc. etc. but I believe that this is a day to celebrate not the suffering bleeding crucified Christ but the meaning of his act for all man kind if they choose to acknowledge him for what he claimed to be, the Son of God.

May we all be blessed this Christmas , I always say to others to choose your own personal higher power your welcome to mine if you don't have one it's name is Christ and my heavenly father God together as one, and of course my second higher power would be NA and all of you as a group .biggrin

Hey Dan I thought it might be an interesting topic hope it doesn't make anyone feel alienated because no one has to have the same God as I do  I leave that up to each individual to be touched by whatever spirit brings them into the light aww.

Though if we read our literature God is mentioned BUT what GOD the biblical God or the God of our understanding ?

I read something on this that someone posted and I think it was a pastor of some church.

How could people find cheer and happiness knowing what Christ went through. Well first of all if Christ didn't feel it necessary to go through what he did he darn sure wouldn't have, at one point he did ask his father to take this away but I think he suffered so much he just wanted it over.

This is a very very deep and meaningful thing Christ did many have given there lives to save others, soldiers, family , civil servants but this man did it for everyone not just a few people but for the entire race of humanity.

I have often felty guitly that i receive his grace because I have felt so undeserving, so much guilt ,it's a good thing I don't make thoughs choices abpout who should receive grace.

Another thing I tell people who ask why do I need a higher power ?

Well many of us have tried everything we can to fix ourselves and found  we kept falling and failing, once we get to the point of having no where else to turn theres sometimes only one thing left to try and it something that works for millions of people and has work for millions of others, I guess it's a last option for many of us, turning our will and lives over to a power greater then ourselves talk about being humbled but it takes what it takes.

I take great comfort in knowing He loved me that much. Christ died so we can live. "So that [we] can reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with with [Him] forever in the next."

So Christmas is a celebration. Of His birth, His life, and His death. Because it was all for us.
