He's a real sincere Muslim I checked his story out Dean and learned a lot by watching it. I am glad he didn't give up his musical talents he got confused about that for many years I think and last few years came back .
What a talent his brother mentioned he's not the type to do something half ass'd LOL really put himself into his music and his religion and spirituality got to respect the man a great deal for what he's done.
I was feeling depressed today over some things and came across him on youtube and it sorta lifted me out of my space and gave me some other things to think about so I was greaful and decided to share it with the rest of you guys/gals
yeah, I'm not sure what caused him to be deported (not allowed to re-enter via "no fly list") in '04 but I did see some soundbites back then of controversial comments he made after 911, to the tune of "We deserved it...". Pretty ungrateful, considering how successful America made him. Not judging, just saying. I had a hard time listening to his music and would turn it off, when it came on the radio until recently. His old stuff from the '70's is very healing and I decided to embrace the music regardless of his person. Still not sure if I'll buy anything of his until I do some more research to see if he's apologized for said comments. Apparently something happened because he's allowed to enter the US now. sorry didn't mean to politicize your thread.
His donations got him in trouble, these charitys at times have been found to be fronts for other organizations and to some unknowingly. I honestly doubt he would donate to causes that take lives of others, matter of fact I would bet on that one , but he could have unknowingly done so and that's to bad.
What got him on that list was his supposed support of Ayatollah Khomeni's fatwa by calling for the life of author Salman Rushdie for committing blasphemy against the Qur'an in his novel The Satanic Verses
And that was an ALLEGATION by british pressm I doubt he actually supported that fact either .
Hey I like a little politics now and then matter of fact I am a bit to passionate at time :)
