Don't know if anyone watched the Oprah's show today, but it was about heroin addiction in Richland County Ohio...that's my birthplace and has been my home until the last few weeks!
There was a lady named Merry on there, I was friends with her in early recovery. She went to prison and I lost track of her. The Hawk family that was on there (mom, dad, and 2 teenage sons, all addicted) is from this small town 12 miles from me. The dad's brother (who is currently in prison) was friends with my husband and I.
It was very surreal watching the show...seeing Merry, her daughter (who's played with my daughter), her boyfriend (whom I went to school with and humg out with)& mom on this show...Heroin has claimed the lives of about 50 people this year, and we're talking in 1 town that's only got about 1,200 people living there!!
One good thing, they are now opening a detox center in the county in response to all the publicity *thank God!!
I'm just really grateful I was ready to quit, and that I found NA and allowed the program's suggestions to work in my life!!
Addiction is a devastating disease, and I'm just really glad to be on the recovery side of it, on the productive, instead of destructive side of addiction!!

That's really cool Goldie. I missed the show, but I have a friend who saw it. Sometimes seems like the world is just getting smaller and smaller. I bet it blew your mind when you saw your friends! Thanks for sharing the story and keep posting.

Hey..Yes I saw it too....They had to travel 100 miles to Columbus to cop.
I live about 20 minutes NORTH of Columbus in the SAFE suburbs HA! In little pockets up here there are "crack" neighborhoods. Want to know something really depressioning? After that show I looked in the phone book just to see HOW BAD NO TREATMENT there was......Only ONE TREATMENT CENTER in DELAWARE CO. and in the far left corner it stated NO MEDICARE/MEDICADE!
ADDICTION is such a vicious cycle......
ANYWAY I will not be going to TARHALLOW but my sponsor is going and a whole bunch of people from my area will also be going. My husband is taking me back EAST. He /we are SEASON TKT Holders to the J.E.T.S. JETS JETS JETS 6th row 25 yard line playing Cincinatti and we are taking my sonny boy!
I truly miss JERSEY PIZZA too. No offense but OHIO pIzza just is not cutting it!
We just got a Chicago pizza down the street took my girl there a few weeks back, had the yellow pizza crust and was THINK we ate a small one and could barely finish and it was DE LISH ESS.
Couple years ago a brother and sister team from Philidelphia opened a cheese steak place and OH MAN was that some really good stuff but the sister had a severe cocaine problem and destroyed the business with all her crap her brother couldn't handle her and closed the doors after about 6 months it was sad thing to watch.

WE live like 5 hours from Chicago andI was jones out for NJ pizza so bad one day my husband said come on babydoll I have a suprize for you!~ He drove me all the way up to chicago for a deep dish pizza and OMG was it worth it! It was even better than NJ PIE I can admit that!
I did not see that episode but I have seen Oprah with stuff like that on her show. The dope man is always only a phone call away. Doesn't matter what city we live in. Ya know, a useing "buddy" once tried to tell me that he was moving to Maui because there wasn't any crack there. Do you believed that i almost believed that! Too funny!
