Claiming my seat.

Hi my name is Dave m and I am an addict. I just wanted to claim my seat. I am newly coming back to the halls and now really begining to understand the incidousness of our disease. I had previously had over a year under my belt and my thinking was yes I am cured. I thought I could use alcohol, I forgot that alcohol is a drug. It is also a very powerful one. 11 days ago I wreck my car and was sent to jail. I was in a total state of depression. I had forgotten that I could find a new way of life enjoying it without the use of drugs. The wreck was a slap in the face, but in a good way. It has brought me back to reality. I had also used other drugs while I was out, substituting one for another. You name it I would use it. I forgot I was an addict and have the trifold disease that effects the mind body and sprit. i have suffered in all these asspects. There something I have today that I didn't have for awhile and that is hope. Thanks I am an addict my name is David.smile.gifsmile.gif **HUGS**

Hi Dave, welcome back. You have reminded me of a passage in Chapter 7 "Recovery and Relapse." It says, "...a relapse may be the jarring experience that brings about a more rigorous application of the program." Pg 78 says, "Relapse can be the destructive force that kills us or leads us to the realization of who and what we really are." I will share with you a hope shot that I have shared with many others: Through everything you have gone through or are going through, you are being uniquely equipped to help some other addict who is yet to come, who may not be able to identify with anyone else's experience but yours. So, Dave, be encouraged, you are not alone, and you are gaining valuable experience to help others. Good Luck and Big NA Hugs!!

You earned your seat....Trying coming back after having 8 EIGHT YEARS IN THE PROGRAM!~  That was the BIGGEST PEICE OF HUMBLE PIE I HAD TO EAT.

When you just come and dont take suggestions and make the meetings you want to make and dont come early or stay late or get numbers  blah blah blah  you get the picture eventually your disease starts  or my disease started talking to me......

Today I work the steps  I have a sponsor,  I am involved in chairing meetings,  I am a GSR of my homegroup  ETC ETC ETC  I have more true friends than I ever did when I was out there and that is the truth  and that black hole in my soul is poof gone..
