I HAVE BEEN CLEAN SINCE MAY 2008, AFTER USING FOR 2 YRS. I AM EXPIERICING NUMBNESS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CHEEK AND JAWLINE. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM AFTER BEING A CRACK COCAIN ADDICT???
Hi Wanda, Welcome to MIP. Thanks for your post. I do not know of anyone personally who experienced numbness after recovering from cocaine addiction. I don't mean to alarm you and I'm not saying this to scare you, but I would strongly recomment that you see a physician ASAP as it could be an indication of something else, such as a heart attack. I urge you not to wait. And please keep us posted here, let us know how you're doing.

I also encourage you to see a physician however there are other reasons for numbness which may not be so serious. Still need to see a doctor mind you and not trying to dismiss doing so. The beginning of shingles can cause numbness like this, bell's palsy comes to mind as well. When you smile do both sides of your mouth come up equally? Do you have any drooping of an eye lid? Headache? Speech slurring? If you stick your tongue out and do so intended for it to go out straight, does it go out straight or go to one side or the other? If those kinds of things are normal and again not to dismiss seeing your doctor, you could be having a TIA, a "mini-stroke" that comes and goes, but I'd be surprised if you are having a full blown CVA or "stroke".
This kind of thing happen before?
Some dental issues can cause pressure on nerves when then displays itself with the numbness.
Is anything else going on? Something change in an other areas of your life?
There are any number of things that can happen to the system impacted by your drug use. I've given up wondering if this or that is or is not a possible symptom of withdrawals. Almost everything is and can be.
THANKS TO EVERYONE, FOR THEIR CONCERNS. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN ALMOST A YEAR AGO. IT STARTED WITH LITTLE NUMBNESS IN THE JAW AND AROUND THE LIPS. THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS,THE NUMBNESS HAS INCREASED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FACE.I HAVE NONE OF THE SYMPTONS THAT IMIKENS MENTIONED.I DID VISIT THE DENTIST APPOXIMATLY 2 MONTHS AGO.I ADDRESSED MY NUMBNESS ISSUE WHEN I WAS HAVING A TOOTH FILLED:HOWEVER,HE DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. SO I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FROM SMOKING CRACK AND WOULD BE A TEMPORARY ISSUE. I GUESS THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE FEEDBACK.
It very well could be related to some kind of neurotransmitter thing that is goofed up from your drug use. I think at this point we were just thinking along the lines of triage as in is this an emergency vs. something you can wait to see your doctor for. Sounds like the later. I certainly encourage you to see your doctor.
You could have some unnatural swelling, etc., that needs to be diagnosed and treated, maybe an MRI, etc., or maybe nothing. BUT please get it checked out.
Does anything make it worse/better? Like cold make it worse but if you take a hot shower and let the hot water run over your face does it get better?
Chewing ice make it worse but sipping on warm tea make it better? Other way around?
If you take a motrin, which has an anti-inflammatory effect, make the numbness less?
Anything you can provide your doctor in terms of assessment will help track it down.
I've never experienced that either. But definately get it checked out~! I have numbness in my extremities a lot from nerve damage and fibromyalsia. All of a sudden my arm or leg or foot or hand, etc. will just go numb. But the feeling does return eventually.
Imikens makes a good point, pay attention to the symptoms...the more info you have to give to the Dr. the more s/he has to work with, and sometimes that can lead to the less tests they need to preform (equaling the less money you'll owe~!)
Hope you get to the Doc soon, sometimes when we have the oppurtunity to do something and don't we have to suffer with an ailment that could have been remedied had we gotten treatment soon enough.
