Why are you Lurking?

A lot of Lurkers here. The average thread gets 45 views and 3 responses, usually from the same 3 or 4 people. If you're a member then post a message, if not join up and post. If BigV and one or two others left there would be no board. Partisipate in your recovery, please share your experience strength and hope! smile.gif

Mr. Winkie,

You're one of the 3-4 daily posters =  not a lurker smile.gif

I'm not a lurker, but I often read posts and find that I have nothing to add. I might even think about a post for a while and return to read it again without adding a comment. I imagine this happens frequently for others as well. What does it matter how many views and how many posts? We each do what we can at the time.

Blithe, you're a regular also.  I'm not judging here, just trying to encourage more people to share.  If you went to a F2F  NA meeting and only 2 people out of 40 shared, you wouldn't have much of a group or meeting.

Well, we're powerless over what other people choose to do. They will share when they feel ready to do so. It's really not any of our business. If it happens at a f2f meeting, then we still have a meeting. I would try to provide an atmosphere of recovery in which people feel safe and comfortable. However they choose to participate is up to them. At least they're coming and listening (in this case reading) a message of recovery. It's a great place to start!

It's a WELCOME mat that Deans throwing out :)

LOVe to read new posters and especially those who keep coming back like everyone here, I certainly don't have all the experience to help out everyone, takes a tribe to raise a kid :)P so we can use all the help we can get for the new comer and the new comer is what this is mostly all about.

Thanks so much for all your support Dean, Blithe you too mrwinkie( though I do wonder about that name LOL )...?

in the spirit of what i think deans saying. WELCOME TO ALL THAT WANT TO POST. WE ENCOURAGE YOUR INPUT. IN FACT WE NEED IT. PLEASE FEEL FREE EVERYBODY TO EXPRESS YOURSELF HOWEVER YOU SEE FIT . BUT LETS TRY TO STICK TO RECOVERY..and thanks dean for taking the time. sometimes it dosent take much to get a clean addict defensive. also i might change my name vin, but let me tell ya. in 95 when i met my present wife we got our first computer, she kinda picked mrwinkie as 1 a semi sexual joke. and more importantly 2 a way to make me appear a pervert to online ladies, thus making them avoid me..dont ask its a chick thing. and its just stuck. i gotta change it.sun.gif

ha ha ha,,,here I go again,,,,
as yaol may know I have been in this forum for 4 years.
in that time ive done just over1000 posts,,, not a very energetic thing.
others have dome later and done more posting.
I never had any need to comment on each and every share,,I'm not here for scoring the mostnposts.
I'm glad to say I've reached a new level in recovery here and thank those who post regularly.
its just thzt I believe in space,,giving nd recieving of it.
so sometimes I read and share,,sometimes I just read and sometimes I'm absent.
so that's my style.
but I never cease to be thrilled that so many non-posters read us every day..
I thank them too from the bpttom of my heart for reading,,,
and I say to them.don't feel dhy,,remember thatanother addict will be less likely to judge..
warmregards

So Soooooo right about coming in second and still being OK with that Raman , I have learned that patting mself on the back is what I needed and not worrying so much about what others think since that got me into this mess in the first place.

That goes WAY back to childhood not getting what I  expected from others is part of my low self esteem thing, measuring myself on how others treat me and not getting what I thought I deserved because  am worthless and no good ( thats what I let myself believe ).

Glad to see you sticking with the forum  also Raman, glad to see a few others find this to be beneficial to there recovery, somehow it works why dump something that works. And I know that thoughs who do lurk and just read get a little something from our sharing I have read them say it and thats what matters, helping others whilst we help ourselves.biggrin

Liked your name for what you call us, so I used it! Honestly, some of us are just shy about letting people know what we are feeling. I've been going to f2f meetings off and on for 3 years. I've never shared because I can't speak in public, I freeze! Maybe this will help though. At least nobody can see me! biggrin

Right on Lurker this is a good place to start sharing I always enjoy being able to share here and get some feedback especially when it comes to feeling stuff, since we use behind our feelings and stuffed them without sharing for so long its good to be able to open up and let some of those thoughts and feelings out some where, your safe here with us glad to have you out of lurk status nowwink

Oh Yeah! Free the lurkers! floating.gifheadbang.gif

seriously,  what BigV said.  This board and F2F meetings are all about being a safe place to express your feelings.  We need to get rid of that old rule that says we can't.   We used to get rid of our negative feelings (fear, anger, shame, rage...)  but what we didn't know was that our feelings are package deal and we sent all the positive feelings away at the same time.  Let it out brothers and sisters.

Dean

Thank you all for coming out of your mini-lurks too, even if it's just to share how good or bad lurking or posting more is smile.gif

I guess IT WORKS!

A program of attraction rather than promotion....I've tried to attract my nephew, following in the steps of his mom that overdosed on heroin. I want to promote. It always meant a lot to me to be asked to be someone's sponsor. Hopefully I can keep attracting. At my age, sanity is more attractive than the cheap escape of dope, which never lasts. Lurkers keep coming back, eh?
