First time poster here, lurked for about a year. I've been posting on the AA site for a couple years as StPeteDean. I was an addict as an early teen (pot, coke, pills...) and a full blown alcoholic/addict by late teens. Went to several AA meetings during this time ('75-'78) not sure if NA was around our area at that time. Used for another 11 years, including 2 years of steadily going to AA meetings and not achieving more than 2 months at a time. A series of events (divorce, and a close friend OD'ing and dying) made me realize that it was time, and that I needed to address my drug problems as most of my relapses in AA began there. So I began attending NA similtaneously with my other meetings for about the first 4 years (still have all my keyfobs ). I moved to FL (from Northern VA.) at that time, and will have, God willing, 19 years July 25th.
Oh but I'm still an addict, these days it's the internet, or collecting stuff, you know anything that I can get obsessed about and distract myself from what I should be taking care of (ME). I stumbled into the meeting last night, that BigV was chairing and felt very at home. So hopefully you've got room for an older member that needs to get back into this program
