Is There Anyway to Minimize Those Awful Side Effects??

 Hi Everyone,

I been trying to get off Meth for some time now but I keep relapsing due to the awful side effects. Is their anyway to minimize the side effects so I can finally kick my addiction? It's like ..."I'm damn if I do it,......and damn if I don't." In other words, doing this drug is obviously a very bad thing but if I try and stop cold turkey, I can't function normallly, so I'm damn if i don't.

Thanks

Welcome Ricker, I have no experience with Meth as such, but have been through severe withdrawals many a times when I attempted to stop. I had myself detoxed a few times at a clinic and at other times, I just saw through it cold turks. It does get better after the first 3-4 days, at least the physical part. For me, that's when the difficult part starts - my mental withdrawals. Making regular NA meetings helped me here.

Keep coming back, NA Hugs.

Richard just grab hold and hang on and start working and going to the program, pray, eat well, I took supplements at one time which  helped a bit GABA complex relaxed me as so does  magnesium take as directed the GABA is very strong i tablet is all you need .

The DESIRE has to be there sounds like it is, make no excuses and take responsibilty for your addiction this will give you courage to change what you can.

Don't use no matter what like Tahir said it does get better get some time in make a goal ONE DAY AT A TIME.

BLessings to you keep coming back check in let us know how you are.

I am now nine days cleansmile .... The physical withdrawals are bad, I ended up going to the hospital and my doctor.  they gave me something to relax me to get through those days.  Now, it is more mental than phyiscal.  I stay tired and make myself do things.  I have taken some time off from work to get myself together and plan on changing jobs with less stress.

Go to NA Meetings, I started going on Sunday.  I have found that they understand what I am going through more than anyone, although I have great support from my husband, daughter and mom.

Keep your chin up and you will know when you are ready to serender!!!

As a psych student, with an emphasis in Substance Abuse ,I can tell you that clinically the acute symptoms of withdrawl average about 7 days with the 5th day being the worst as it combines both the physical "I feel like crap" symptoms and the mental "...and I know exactly what will make me feel better, and I'll only do it to feel better, just this once..." symptoms.  Orange juice, honey and chocolate are three of nature's best rehabilitation tools.  Also, it is essential during this time to try and establish a daily routine and to stick to it, even when you don't feel like it.  This is why they get you up at the crack of dawn, eat at the same time, attend group, classes and meetings, exercise and go to bed at the same time (among other things) every single day in rehab.

As a recovering heroin addict, I can tell you that I (as well as many others) am no stranger to the pain of withdrawl nor the constant craving for "just one more (fill in the blank)".  I can also tell you that our literature tells us that when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing, we will do so.  I can tell you that all you need to join us in this journey called recovery is the DESIRE to stop using.  We will tell you the steps we took to get where we are and show you a new way of life to be lived a mere 24 hours at a time.  Just don't use, NO MATTER WHAT, and this too shall pass.  I can also share that my worst day in recovery is still FAR better than my best day using.

It sounds like you want to quit.  May I suggest that you attend some meetings in your hometown if possible, that you begin reading our literature, that you try to get a temporary sponsor and may I offer an open invitation to join the onine Miracles in Progress Narcotics Anonymous meetings held every night at 10PM EST.  My name is Dalana, and I am an addict who will be waiting for you with her arms and mind wide open.     smile
