What do you do to distract yourself from a craving?

Hi, I'm one week clean/sober and am in trouble right now.  After I get home from work is the time when I REALLY start craving and it being Friday makes it even harder (it's the weekend - time to party).
Just wondering what some of you use to distract yourself from an intense craving.  I've been using food and I need to stop that too.  HELP!

serenity prayer
caling my sponsor/recovering friends
sitting in an NA meeting and share the feeling
later on write about it in my daily journal

i think a lot of people use food, i can't because when i get a craving i get this knot in my stomach that makes me the very opposite of hungry if i tried to eat i'd probably throw up.. so instead i usually say the serenity prayer a lot of times in a row saying it really slowly thinking about the meaning of each line like really diggin into it making it apart of me.. and then talking about it with someone who understands.. and can help get you in a more positive mind set, also exercise works good i hear.. but when im craving i usually can't get the motivation to do that.. i really should cuz it's a great stress reliever, and hey.. Friday is just another day in the week.. and even if it has to be fun.. well there are ways to have fun clean.. you have to seek them out though

Prayer , working out, just start doing things differently then you did dont just come home and mope around waiting for the want to hit and turn into an obsession. Go to a meeting and spend time with others who are there for probably the very same reason.

Theres a giant void now that needs to be filled, find fun things and enjoy life.

Welcome!!!

i agree with BigV... change your routine and eating something healthy won't hurt you!!
I don't know about you but when i first cleaned up my body was seriously malnutritioned.. getting healthy includes my body, mind and spirit.

if a craving hits the most powerful tool i found has been telling on my dis-ease..i pick up the phone, comedy is a great tool too!! i go to meetings read my liturature, pray.. and most important as well...stay in the moment, in the here and now, right here..right now, i am clean and telling myself that being clean feels good!!!

step one ....means i never have to use again

you have stayed clean for a week!!!!

you are a miracle!!!

way to go!!

keep coming back

hugs Wendy

And remember once this program takes hold of you the cravings go away you will no longer need or want it anymore. Once you work this programs steps, you will come to a point where using isn't an option nor a want or need, you will be free.

It's Sunday and I made it! Sat and Sunday aren't usually as bad as weeknights as that was when I used the most...go figure. On the weekends, I had my kids and hubby to contend with, which made it more difficult.
So here I am - clean since 4/2/08!!!!
I am starting to focus on the positives of being clean, thanks to this board! Instead of "poor me, I can't get high anymore", I've been thinking "Wow, I felt great when I woke up this morning". Little things like that.
Thank you all for your inspiration.

I can't believe I got my date of sobriety wrong...I originally said it was just one week when it's closer to 2 weeks! 4/2 - 4/13 is 11 days!!!
I'm so proud of myself :)

way to go!!!!

the fact that i can stay clean for just one day!!!!

and so can you!!!

today is the day that counts.. what can do to stay clean today? as i can't base it on yesterday. it is a new day. Although i can take the tools that kept me clean yesterday and use them today.

Living in the positive is living in the solution, way to go.

When i say My name is Wendy, I am a
RECOVERING addict, instead of simply, i am an addict, i am living in recovery.

Keep coming back, you are most important

hugs
Wendy
