I am writing on behalf of my husband, who is serving a lenghty prison sentence within the Michigan Department of Correction. After over ten years of sobriety, he recently relapsed with heroin. He is working hard to find his footing again but is struggling greatly. While there has been no use for some 30 days, he is constantly bombarded by tempation, as he literally lives amongst the dealers. Yes, there is an NA program in the prison, but he is hesitant to fully disclose there because any weakness is exploited.
What he is looking for is people who would be willing to engage in a written correspondance dealing with recovery. He is very serious about this and has asked me to please reach out on his behalf. I know it may be an inconvenience, given the fact that all work would have to be done via "snail mail", but he is humbling asking anyway. Jack is a wonderful person, we have been together a very, very long time. There is no hidden motive here - just someone in despair reaching out. He did recently purchase a new NA book and a few other books geared toward recovery and needs positive people in his life with which to discuss such things. He virutally has no one except me.
I love my husband dearly, but am not in recovery. Even if I were, he needs to work his own program. So, if you are interested in meeting a wonderful person who has recently stumbled, please let me know and I will provide you with his address.

I am blessed to be in Prison Ministries . One of them is a Pen-Pal program run by Prison Fellowship Ministries. Prison Fellowsip Ministries has been helping inmates across the World for years. I don't know if you are at an age to remember Chuck Colson and the Watergate scandal or not. But he is the Founder of P.F.M. after he was inprisoned for 8 months in a Federal Prison. After retirement last year Mark Early has taken the leadership role since Chuck retired. If your husband is interested in PFM 's address I will be happ to give it to you. Many offenders 80% are incarcerated due to drug and alcohol related crimes. I myself was placed in a C.Y.A. At 14 I was removed from home becoming a ward of the State. This was in 1969. Drugs and alcohol don't have boundaries, age, sex, religion, politics, race, rich, or poor. This girl went from horses to Haight Ashbury, Altimont Speeway Concert. "Humph"
My life was radically transformed 14 years ago by God. By going to meetings in both A.A. and N.A. for sometime. Working through the 12-Steps, going to Church, going through Therapy, and many many prayers.
The person I am today has unfolded into something new and beautiful ever since. I was a 28 year user of substances and living an immoral lifestyle. Today, my life isn't like that anymore. I was healed on the Alter of our Church from seizures I had for 2 years.
When people say I can't talk about God or The Lord who is my Higher Power I will respect the program. But If something awesome, beautiful, powerful and loving beyond anything you have ever known on Earth changes your life! Would you want to share it? Or keep it a secret? I would like to share it!

Dear Tracy,, im an addict in recovery the NA Waywhos had previous experience in writing to an inmate. there are rules to follow,, but as I gahter form your letter what is required is for someone to write letters to your husband on a regular basis and I am willing to share the NA message as I understand and whats worked for me with you husband. All the public hears about is the junk on T.V. and all the negative hype out there. At one time 2 years ago I was writting to 9 inmates throughout the U.S including my own Brother as well as my Son that was going in and out of County. GOd has transformed my brother but I don't think he has worked any Recovery program YET. My entire family would do well to be in Recovery! There is a small paper called Jubilee Extra that I get here at the house. It keeps me informed about the redeeming Grace of Our Lord inside the Prisons.
