What can we do when the past comes up to haunt us? I was doing really well until I got an e-mail tonight from some loser. He says he has some damaging photos and is trying to extort money out of me. I am don't know what photos he has for sure but thier for sure not good and they are probably true. It will cause me alot of problems if they get out with family and work. It has me totally messed up. I am really stuck with this one. Don't know what to do about it. I am praying but I still feel pretty uneasy. This world is tough some times.

sometimes we need to hand over problems over to those better qualified to tackle it,, an example= nite fore last I had to take the cops help to get even on a very abusive and violent behaviour. I believe i did the right thing,, instead of going on home and swallowing the abuse and acting cool i wnet and got the cops on the guys that were making those very weird remarks. The cops really handled it well,, tey took the guiys bike after he ran like a rabbit on seeing them,,,and they got me to write a complaint. then last evening I became willing to let it go when the cops insisted the abusive guy come and hand an apology letter,, else the case would be pursued. Knowing that we may be helpful in the future to these guys I let it go,,, and there was no physical violence,,only threats and abuse.
Relating to and identifying with your case Kenh,,I remember the time when my ex inlaws with the help of their cousin who was also a lawyer tried to etract and get me to pay a huge amount as alimony,, totally unjustified. I was totally terrified of what will happen, then the Miracle came by in the form of a lawyer and family fiend. Once I handed it over to him, he made mincemeat of their dreadful aspirations to take away half my property,,, without having contributed in any way at all. andnlo and behold,, I was given a mutual consent divorce, I paid some "pity money" to me ex,, and most of all the mIracle of having my girl child entirely in my custody. Thats a 1 in a million chance in Inda wher automatically a chi;ld is handed over to the mother. All said and done like it says in the Basic Text we need to hand these problems over to the professionals,, the results are remarkably positive !!! best of luck !!

I have had some difficult situations from the past come up in my recovery too, one of them being a life-threatening terminal illness that can threaten my life in the future... But with the help of the program, I have experienced that my Higher Power does give me the strength to face it all. If our Higher Power has brought me to this, He will surely bring me out to the other side too...

First things first stay clean Ken and make your mind up that no matter what you'll stay clean thru this episode. Addiction is going to come at you in a lot more ways then one trying to drive you back to it.
Sometimes we really have to get real humble, facing our past can be one of those moments, shame, remorse, guilt all those feelings will creep in but you know what that was then and this is now, a new day in your life. Yes the past has found you SO WHAT that was then and this is now and this is whats important, what you do with this is important.
Save everything that is sent to you and turn it over to the right authority's so they can investigate , humble yourself to them, it may get embarrassing but you can stand on firm ground that its not something your going to repeat again.
At the most you may have to deal with some of the feelings I mentioned above, the person doing this is looking at being locked up behind bars plus taking another persons money under duress is like robbery , which shoes would you rather be in, his or your own .
Maybe its time to come clean to a few of your family , I don't know how much cleansing you need thats for you to decide.
Thank you all for the advice. I have stayed clean and will continue. Now that my head has calmed down a little. I am thinking calm and clear about the next steps.

Vinnie thanks also, you are right I am not going to lie anymore. Things have happened while I was in full swing addiction and I am totally embarassed of the things I have done. The only thing I can do from here on is 1 not do it again 2 face the embarassment and problems 3 deal with this punk.
Sorry for posting that but I was really freaked out. Thanks for the understanding and advice.
