yes thats like in the first Step= I am powerless over the addict,,my life has become unmanageable,,, i experienced helplessness in case of my younger brother,, then I realized I can love his best but never fear his worst. As a mother it must be more so unmanageable,,,, Nar-Anon for you and NA for sonny may still be the best bet. We need to maintain our own recovery,, and look out for our own selves. The concept seems to be "Do my best and leave the rest to God" And yes,, In my understanding and witness,, addiction certainly affects the whole family ! FORCETHATKEEPSADDICTCLEAN Bless your afmily too,, ive seen the many recovery before my own eyes,, please keep trying !! Nothings like mothers love in this world Wanda,,

For me, personally getting support from NarAnon for dealing with my inability to cope with my loved ones' addiction helped and still helps a lot... NarAnon has helped me understand, acknowledge and accept my powerlessness over my loved ones' situations, and to instead heal from my codependency in context of my loved ones' addiction...
You might want to check this online support group for parents/spouses of addicts, Wanda...
http://www.naranon.com/board/viewforum.php?f=1 I derive a lot of experience, strength and hope from many members who have learnt to deal with a loved one's addiction and the resulting crises in their own lives...
