5 Things I'm Grateful for Today

I'm part of this gratitude list where everyday, all members post a minimum of 5 things that we are grateful on that day... participating in this gratitude list group was a transformation of sorts for me, having to think of 5 things that I could be grateful for at the end of each day, it left me with a lot of contentment each day, replacing my dissatisfaction, frustrations etc... Been sometime since I stopped posting there... Good time to start it all over again I guess...

So, I thought it would be great to start such a thread here too...

[1] I'm grateful that our housemaid made our home sparkling clean this morning, and grateful that our Higher Power has blessed me and my wife with the resources to employ a housemaid.

[2] I'm grateful that today in the afternoon, I could express freely to my wife all those things that I regretted doing in the last 24 hours that was not supportive of our coupleship, and also share those things that my wife did to support our coupleship. This is part of our daily 10th Step inventory in the other fellowship that we both are a part of. I'm grateful to this inventory where I have to look at my part and the ways in which I could have harmed our coupleship, and to appreciate what my wife did to support our coupleship and vice versa.

[3] I'm grateful for the care and concern for me that my Counselor expressed on the phone today, it's been 4 years since I have been out of that rehab, but she still calls me and checks if everything's alright with me and my loved ones.

[4] I'm grateful for the evening NA meeting in my hometown that I made. It was an awesome meeting with powerful and hilarious shares. Felt so nourished after the meeting. Grateful that I have a meeting to go to everyday, both face-t0-face and online smile.gif

[5] I'm grateful for all that my Higher Power brought into my life today as a result of which I'm richer by experience, wiser than I was before these experiences. I'm grateful that I have a loving Higher Power in my life whose love for me is unconditional...

1. I am grateful for my life today, my brothers and sisters in NA, and my god.

2. I am grateful for my family whom I love dearly for always being here for me today.

3. I am grateful for the small things that I learn through my precious granddaughter; may I always remember what it was like to be a four year old!!!

Fabulous thread.

Today I am grateful:

1. For my happy little home. (I had the day off today and was super glad to have a quiet day at home!)

2. For my friend who took me out this morning to see two Long-eared owls in the woods behind my happy little home.

3. For my husband and that he's happy and serene today.

4. For my computer that allows me to do a little freelance work that is both fun and helps financially.

5. That I no longer think using makes me normal.

For 28 November:

[1] I'm grateful for the "love-making" with my wife this afternoon smile.gif

[2] Grateful that a couple of homegroup members who came early and opened the meeting as I could only make it when the meeting has started.

[3] Grateful that a Speaker at the meeting shared exactly that which I needed to hear at that moment. I had just sought my Higher Power's will before I went for the meeting, and got the answer through this member's share.

[4] Grateful that I got to watch a movie with my wife called "Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing". Made me realize what a precious gift marriage is, and how blessed we are as a couple to be actually living the fairy-tale relationship that this movie depicts smile.gif

[5] Grateful to my Higher Power for providing me with the strength and clarity that I needed to practice today exactly that which I practiced as a newcomer in NA - to avoid people, places and things that might harm my recovery and sanity.

Thank you all for sharing your gratitude lists smile.gif reading them nourishes and reaffirms me. I have decided that I will share my gratitude list for each day here smile.gif

1.im greatful that i had the prescence of mind to call fellow members in this city and share with them,,I found out one member who has great resentment with me is sharing(maybe not mentioning my name) very badly about me in the meetings and doing a lot of derisive laughter !!
Hes also been broadcasting what ive shared here,,, a certain breach of the Tradition of anonymity !
Im greatful for having found this out and decide nothing will please me more than to allow this member to be who he is,,Im gretaful in finding out hes not my friend !!
If a friend hurts me that hurts,,but derisive persons,,, athst ok,,, thats the way they are ,,I let em be !Im greatful to know where i stand !!
Im greatful to the local member who gave me a patient ear !!
2.Im greatful for a long chat with  my beloved,,
3.Greatful I was able to be there for my family,,
4.Greatful for a nice show ,,, my sax playing and musicianship was much appreciated !
5.Graetful for all the money, property and prestigious things in my life today,,, something I worked hard for in accordance with the Principles of Honesty and Humility !!

1. Im greatful to be clean and serene just for today and greatful for all the Friends and Fellows and this wonderful Forum,,
especially so because sometimes due to stress,, tiredness and inability to see reality I dont understand them as guiding me in my recovery and get irritated and angry with them,,, but they still forgive and tolerate me !!
2.Im so greatful for being granted as  a Grace the process of understanding,,,  which to a large extent has grown over the many years,,, I still have to grow but im really geatful for what i  now have.
3.Im greatful for the gift of Meditation,,and related Prayers like Serenity,, addicts,Third Step and 10th Step Prayers
4.Im really greaful to the women in my life
Anjana my daughter of 12 who I bring up as a single parent,,, shes the one that first gave me a sense of unconditional love and responsiblity
Shanta my mother who has been giving me uncnditional love all my life
"o mother of mine,,,U gave to me,
all of my life,to do as I please,
Id like to give you what you gave to me,mother sweet mother of mine.
Mother you gave me happiness, much more than words can say,
I pray to the Lord that you be Blessed, mother sweet mother of mine "
If i ever saw a fortright woman ,,,its Ma! shes from a family of alcoholics where her two brothers and her Pa died of the disease,, my pa was free with the likker too,, me Im an addict,my bro.is alcoholic by his own admission and many newphews of her are still blown outa their heads !!
And thru all of that she never deserted, ditched, drank, cussed,,, nothing !!
I dont know what Id have done without her in my life inspite of all my abuse, addiction and unmanageablity shes always stood by me without enabling the illness!!
Jacqueline,,, my lady love,,shes taken me by the hand and showing me how to love her better,,, Im onto a new experience in life,,, living a dream of love,,and the dream is her !!
5.Friends and colleagues outside of the 12 Step Tradition who give me a lot to go by too,,,remind me that love is to be found everywhere,,, it isnt the monoply of the Fellowship !!(but its the Fellowship that teaches me how to love back without losing "recoverymindedness ")

[1] I'm grateful for all the gratitude lists that you share with me daily smile.gif

[2] I'm grateful that there are half a dozen women members in my local fellowship today making meetings everyday. Before, my wife was in a constant state of frustration that gets to meet only male members all the time in our fellowship, that she is used to being a part of NA fellowship in her country where the members were 60% women and 40% men smile.gif I, in fact, used to pray a lot that some women members show up in our fellowship too so that my wife doesn't feel lonely anymore. Now, it fills me with gratitude to see my wife happy and laughing and having good time with a group of her own kind at the meetings, and at the cafe. They are planning to start a women's group and meeting shortly with help from women members of another area in our region.

[3] I'm grateful one of my Sponsees from Maldives is on a visit to my place with his newly wed wife. We are having good time at home. I got to share and care with him about my current issues, and you know what, he gave me all that I had given him 2 years back, and that really helped. No doubt what goes around comes around smile.gif

[4] I'm grateful to my Higher Power that I'm kept away from using today, as a result of which I continue to experience and enjoy new things in life on a daily basis that were beyond my imagination while using.

[5] I'm grateful to a group of members at the cafe for their concern, care and sweet gestures.

#1. I'm grateful for friendship
#2. I'm grateful for the fact that i'm able to go ut out into the world each day and partake in sober fellowship and interaction with other human beings.
#3. I'm grateful for the fact that people are now beacuse of the programme, able to depend on me. That when I say I'll do a thing, they know I'll do it. I've been able to regain a measure of dignity and self-respect that i had completely lost; and more will come in time if I continue to work at this programme if I remeber that what I seek is "progress not perfection".
#4. I'm grateful for what happened this evening... the opportunity to ogle a very good looking specimen of manhood while in a sober state and not make an ass of myself beacuse I was drunk - and therefore proceede to do or say something stupid, but just have a pleasant conversation and say goodnight!
#5. I'm grateful for my divine niece, who is having her 4th birthday party tomorrow - and I hope and pray that it is not ruined by rain!

[2] Grateful that I have a loving and caring Higher Power in my life today.

[4] Grateful to a member here who has been very caring by keeping in touch with me everyday.

[5] Grateful that I could feel grateful today smile.gif

Congrats on being elected as Area Vice-Chair, Blithe, way to go smile.gif We elected a new Vice-Chair a few months back too. And we all feel so glad that we did. This member is one of the most hard-working and passionate guys I have seen in NA service... He is there, at all subcommittee meetings, coordinating between these subcommittees and the area and groups smile.gif

His dedication and enthusiasm as Vice-Chair of our ASC is so infectious that it is rubbing off on other members in the ASC and subcommittees smile.gif He shared with me a while back that the reason why he got involved in NA service after a gap of 5 years was his 6th Step! Wow, what an eye-opener that was when I heard it... He also shares how being a vice-chair is helping him improve leaps and bounds at his corporate board meetings in his organization and with coordinating with his colleages at work etc.

Today,

I'm grateful that I woke up fresh and energetic for a change without any symptoms of my other illness that usually visit me every morning I wake up smile.gif

I'm grateful to all these Nicotine Anonymous members' sharings that I get to hear in the mornings and evenings in my bedroom when my wife attends these online voice meetings of that fellowship. The presence of a wife who is nicotine-free and the shares that I hear when she is listening to them on the speakers really make me think about my smoking everyday...

I'm grateful that I attended the Step Study meeting here at my homegroup yesterday, and for all the shares at that meeting.

I'm grateful for the love that my Higher Power has blessed me with in my daily life, both within and without...

I'm grateful for the air-conditioning that we have in our bedroom.

I'm grateful that I logged in here and read some of the shares that many of you had posted, and to start the day by sharing my gratitude list for the last 24 hours smile.gif love you all...

[1] Grateful to my Higher Power for all the appreciation that I received from my Director for the good editing work I'm doing lately.

[2] Grateful for a great dinner that I had yesterday. The closest that I got to what I'm used to eating back at my hometown.

[3] Grateful to each one of you here and each one of the online NA friends who continue to share and care the NA way with me on a daily basis. Love you all.

[4] Grateful to another 12-step fellowship that me and my wife are a part of which continues to support and help our relationship grow on spiritual principles of the 12 Steps, and grateful that we have other couples here in our town as part of that fellowship. We just celebrated one year of meetings in that fellowship here, the only group of that fellowship in Asia smile.gif

[5] Grateful that I'm powerless over my addiction, that I don't have to manage my life ever, that there is a loving Power that could help me live Just For Today.

I'm grateful that I get my NA Way Magazine delivered at home regularly. Grateful that I read all the awesome shares, thought-provoking issues and lots of NA trivia in the current issue.

I'm grateful that I picked up the morning Yoga exercises from my rehab 5 years back. Has been helping me stay away from my body aches and fatigue on a daily basis today.

I'm grateful to my wife who picked up some good food from me last evening as I was not feeling well.

I'm grateful that I read a few of my Sponsor's shares online the last two days, helped me stay grounded in the spiritual principles of the program.

I'm grateful for the wonderful climate here in my town. I always thrive well in a moderate or cold climate as compared to my body's inability to cope with warm humid weather smile.gif

#1.I'm grateful for the lack of addict fueled and driven drama in my life.
#2.I'm grateful for my new playmates. playgrounds and playthings.
#3. I'm grateful for my new found understanding of boundaries; and that terms like respect, decency and morality are more than just words, they are actions. And that to recieve them you have to give them.
#4.I am grateful for my new found understanding of change. That any change in life requires action, be you an addict, a person in an unhappy marriage or a depressing job. If you want to change your circumstances. You have to work for it.
#5. I am grateful for my reconnection with my higher power. I think I have always known that there was this infiltesimal (sp) force greater than all of us. And only by handing it all to him, could all of the above be achieved, could one find true happiness and peace of mind.

Grateful for an awesome speaker meeting yesterday at my homegroup. Great shares and amazing participation by all homegroup members. Felt like part of a truly caring family smile.gif

Grateful for the new mobile phone that my wife gifted me as a surprise...

Grateful that I found my homegroup kit and my bag again. I realized that I'm not carrying it only after I came home late in the evening. Had gone to a dozen places in the evening, and thought that I had lost it when one of the members called and said that I had left it in the cafe and that he will drop it at my place on his way back home.

Today I am grateful....

That my husband doesn't spit.

That I don't have to react and behave poorly when another person is offensive.

For the beautiful snow that is falling today.

For my grandfather.

That I don't need to use when I feel uncomfortable.

A great NA meeting this evening.

For the dinner hosted by a fellow member and a very close friend of mine from day one in NA who completed & celebrated 8 Years Clean today.

to my Sponsees who help me stay grounded and focused on my recovery.

to my wife and a good ride on my bike with her today where we chose to not take our car out and instead ride my bike out to get a taste of christmas festivities in the city.

to my Superior at work who expressed willingness in cooperating a lot with me today and thus making my part of work more easier...

I'm grateful that my wife reached out to me yesterday and expressed her love for me inspite of my indifferent behavior with her. This act of love humbled me, brought me back to my senses, made me realize and admit my wrong.

I'm grateful that I made a service meeting yesterday at noon and did some action work at the site of our fund-raising event.

I'm grateful for the surprise financial bonus that I got on the occasion of Christmas from the organization I work for. That took care of my financial obligations where it seemed I'd be unable to meet them this month.

I'm grateful to an old non-using friend from my college who spent the evening with me. We last met each other 7 years back.

I'm grateful to my Higher Power for keeping me clean today so that I experience life to its fullest everyday, and for elevating me to a state of consciousness where I could actually see the grace and blessings of my Higher Power and FEEL grateful for it all.

I'm grateful to Chedza, Blithe Spirit and addictmaria. Thanks for sharing many more things that I could be grateful for. Yes, I gotta love a gratitude list smile.gif

I'm grateful to my Higher Power for blessing me with the patience, acceptance and tolerance to just watch it all go by and deal with unpleasant situations with others in my life with a neutral, kind and caring perspective.

I'm grateful for all the material gifts that my Higher Power has blessed me with. The other day, I heard a speaker share that she was grateful to NA that has made it possible for her to have her pockets full of money always, and I was thinking why the hell do I never hear members share that more often?

I'm grateful that I have a job that is exactly what I wanted to do for a long time, to serve suffering humanity. Even though at times my job demands more money, time and energy of my own at times, it's highly satisfying and rewarding in many amazing ways. Glad that I gave up the boring, monotonous and meaningless existence as a professional accountant, and followed my heart in what I want to do with my life smile.gif

I'm grateful that I'm able to be quickly aware of what I'm saying or doing in a particular situation rather than get lost in that typical addictive attitude of looking at what others said or did in that situation. Applying my Fourth Step in my daily affairs has been a life saver for me smile.gif

I LOVE DOING MY GRATITUDE LISTS EVERYDAY AS THEY FREE ME FROM HAVING TO USE MY DEFECTS OF CHARACTER AND INSTEAD MAKE ME CONSTANTLY OPEN MY MINDS TO THE SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLES OF THE PROGRAM!

KEEP SHARING YOUR GRATITUDE WITH ME, OUR GRATITUDE SPEAKS WHEN WE CARE AND WHEN WE SHARE WITH EACH OTHER THE NA WAY...

Today, this first day of 2008, I have much for which to be grateful.

I am grateful...

...for the spontaneity that sent me outside into the silver light that shone this afternoon just before the heavy, dark clouds rumbled in

...for the Bohemian Waxwing that visited the crab-apple tree this morning

...that my husband is finding some peace and serenity in his life

...that after several years of consideration, my husband and I have decided to become foster parents

...that I can express how I feel rather than act out, deny, distract, or blame

Grateful for my Sponsor's share today. His presence in my life is a very reassuring and reaffirming point in my recovery.

Grateful for my Sponsee's share where he shared the miracle of NA unfold at his group's meeting today.

Grateful to my Higher Power for providing me with the calm, clarity, strength and love I needed to take care of my wife over two days as she fell ill due to some food poisoning.

Grateful for the presence of a loving, caring and merciful Higher Power in my life today and for the hope, faith and trust that this Power generates in me.

I can hear you loud and clear Maria smile.gif

My weekend service efforts & commitments in NA started on Friday itself.

First thing, had to go through the last ASC minutes and groups/subcommittee reports as a re-orientation on Friday afternoon.

Then call for our monthly homegroup service meeting to discuss these issues and take back the group report and consciences to the ASC.

Took up as Treasurer of our group as the current Treasurer's term has come to an end.

Established contact with the premises authorities while paying the monthly rent, had a good hearty conversation with the chief nun who is in charge of the premises we use for our meetings.

Our seating arrangement was missing from the room for our last two meetings. So had to address the issue and bring the seating arrangement back for our Friday Recovery meeting.

Prepare the Group Report to the ASC as GSR (only 5 more months to go before I would have served as GSR-A and GSR of the group for two years).

As I'm also the H&I Secretary, had to collect all our presentations/H&I meetings logs from the panel leaders, summarise the points of our two subcommittee meetings, and prepare the H&I Subcommittee report to the ASC.

Attended the ASC Meeting (went for 3 hours, and that was the shortest one lately) on Sunday.

Spent some quality one-on-one time with a Sponsee. Very rewarding. Made me Pick up the questions that my Sponsor last sent me. Have started taking a dig at them smile.gif

Back to work on Monday morning. Just finished it. A little bit of confusion at work to start with, but was quick to fall back to the program and to settle in the groove, no doubt, as a result of being in the serene, gratitude-filled NA service groove over the weekend...

Grateful that you shared about gratitude in giving back to NA Maria, and making me realize how grateful an experience it all actually is, to contribute as a productive, responsible member of the society towards God's will for us in NA.

What a change staying clean and recovering has brought to me smile.gif ain't we the lucky ones I wonder... thank God I am an addict!!!

#5. A decent cup of coffee
#6. A reminder by my fellows in this programme that if I'm to keep what I have, I have to get of my ass and give back.

I'm grateful that I was at peace and was able to feel ok after I woke up late at noon this day having overslept and waking up with a lot of pain in my limbs, that I did not have to go through a self-whipping session through out the day for waking up late and for not feeling well.

I'm grateful for today's JFT reading on fear and faith, and on the benefits of living recovery under the care of a loving Higher Power. That I don't need to control and manage my life today by myself.

I'm grateful to my Sponsees. It's through them that I've been receiving my my Higher Power's directions and will for me in the last few days.

I'm grateful for the life today, staying and living clean. That I don't have to use and lose out on all the gifts of recovery that I've been blessed with today.

I'm grateful to all the non-NA people in my daily life. They allow me to experience the miracle of applying the NA program to my life as a whole, in it's entirety, with everything and everyone.

- to the doctor and his presence in our life (everytime I go paranoid and panic about my wife not feeling well, I take her to this doctor, and when I leave his clinic, I feel great peace and reassurance encompass me). He is the Power greater than my fears that restores me to sanity.

- to the 3 other members who showed up for the H&I Subcommittee meeting today.

- for the inventory that I used this morning to check my underlying thoughts and motives when I realized that I'm not feeling ok about a certain issue.

- to my Higher Power who continues to bless me with day after day of clean life and all the gifts that living clean brings into my life.

- that I have all of you in my daily recovery, love you all.

Chedza, I'm a philatelist, and one of the themes that I specialize in my collection is Botswana, right from the QV Era pre-1900 when Botswana was called Bechuanaland Protectorate. And from the more recent periods, I love the wild life - birds sets of Botswana postage stamps that I own.

Grateful to my Sponsors, both past and current who have helped mould this grateful recovering addict...

Grateful to my Higher Power for giving me the strength to hear out what my mom had to share for more than an hour today on the phone. She was so glad at the end of it and thanked me for listening and understanding her problems and pain. I was in tears of gratitude at the end of that phone call.

Grateful that I was able to be creative from the word GO on my work today. Was on leave for more than a week, and was a bit doubtful as to how much my head would cooperate at work, but I was in the groove as soon as I started at work.

Grateful that I was able to detach in context of a loved one's struggle with addiction today.

Grateful to the MIP service team & John for this great MIRACLE IN PROGRESS that is part of my daily recovery.

Grateful for my favorite delicious meal of dalrice and sabzi for lunch today smile.gif

Grateful for the presence of an oldtimer here, our current Convention Chair whose simplicity and humility I admire and envy a lot. This friend of mine is more than a decade clean now, but still carries such warmth and humility in his being that I could feel the vibration of love whenever I hug him.

Grateful for our new Secretary that we found at last for our Homegroup here. He is awesome and willing to take the commitment passionately.

Grateful to my wife who is so caring, considerate, understanding and accomodative. I'm grateful for her presence in my life today.

Grateful to one of my sponsees who gave me an opportunity to share about my fears of losing loved ones when he called me because his daughter was down with fever and had to be admitted in the hospital. We could so relate with how we both react to such situations. Glad I found him in my recovery.

Grateful that I have NA meetings where I can rush to when I feel unbearable pain and share it with others and not having to rush to my connection and use instead...

Grateful that I got to spend sometime with my parents, brothers and sisters over the last two days...

Grateful that my father recovered to a certain extent from his deteriorating health condition and is back home from the hospital...

Grateful for a milestone celebration meeting that I was a part of the day before. Was such a great experience, nothing like the power of a recovery meeting I guess...

Grateful that we have a cook and for the wonderful dishes that me and my wife get to enjoy in our meals because of this cook...

Grateful for a great, productive day at work today, much of my work is in it's final drafts, just a quick revision and proofreading needed now, I'd be glad to share my writings with you very soon hopefully...

Grateful for the suprise monetary gift that came my way yesterday morning just when I had surrendered to my Higher Power one of my financial crisis situations after trying hard to solve it for more than a week... nothing seemed to work in that one week... then yesterday morning in my prayer and meditation time, I let go of my struggle and surrendered the whole issue to my Higher Power. Within an hour, the solution came my way through a pleasant surprise...

Grateful for the posts that I read today at MIP and at the other online group that I logged on to today... sharing and caring the NA way makes my day smile.gif
