Recovery works best for me when I'm open to what comes along each day. I used to set rigid schedules for myself, write long lists of things to do, and proceed through the day wearing the blinders of my preconceived scenario. Binges were my way of rebelling against my own rigidity and also a protest against whatever upset my carefully made plans.
We miss a lot when we try to impose our own structure on the events of the day. Perhaps we do it out of anxiety, and perhaps we do it to feel we're in control, but it doesn't work.
However hard we try to ignore or prevent the unexpected, the unexpected occurs. One of the things recovery teaches us is that we can trust ourselves and our Higher Power to deal with whatever comes along. Using our inner resources, we are free to respond spontaneously to the real life situations that we encounter.
Today, I will be open to the unexpected. Who knows? It might be fun!

Good Post Tahir, thank you. I am starting to get into a more spontaneous life style as well. I try to enjoy small things during the day just for the moment, instead of thinking about what happened in the past and would could possibly happen in the future. I have also learned to accept the realities of life as they come good or bad. Thanks for the info, look forward to hearing from you again.
In recovery Kenh.

Spontaneity is truly a gift of recovery. In my case it's almost as if I don't have a choice but to accept each day exactly as it unfolds. Whenever I try to control my life, my day, my spirit, just about anything, I prove to myself time and time again that my un-medicated self is way too rebellious. Today I accept that I have a rebellious nature that is really a strong spirit that demands freedom. When I allow my spirit to guide me, I am much happier and more peaceful.
I currently have two little children in my life and in my home. They are 2 1/2 and 1 1/2. I think I am going to learn even more about accepting the unexpected in the next few weeks.
Thanks for sharing Ken and Blithe. Blithe, one of my friends in the fellowship has a small child too, and the other day, when I asked how the kid was doing, he said something amazing, he said that nowadays his Higher Power has stormed into his house in the form of his kid, and all the spiritual principles that he needs to learn and practice, his little son teaches him - unconditional love, trust, patience, tolerance and acceptance. It left me zapped what he said. What a way to look at the Higher Power's presence in our daily life, around us. So I'm sure your two children must be a great blessing and joy in your life

I really liked how you put that. About the higher power teaching spiritual principles through our kids. I am a single parent and have been raising my son by myself for the past 10 months and wow do i have some patients hahah. but he is truly a blessing in my life. he just turned 1 year on the 8th

It is so true, the honesty and innocence in our children is something special plus you get to be a real hero to your kids, unconditional love from them is something that will keep you going through any hard times.

my daughter is now 11 years old,, will be 12 in a month !!! Since she was two ive bought her up as a single parent,,, now 10 years later its like only ten months,,,, basically love, caring and responsiblity is what I got to keep in looking after my girl,,, I love her,, shes my Love and Light !!! I bless her for the way she handled getting to know of NA and my membership there !!! I still remember that day in my recovery ,,, dark till she came in. She came bundled in a wrap and my younger bro gave her to me,,,i looked at her,a 2 and a half kilo, premature baby and I had a thought "This is mine"and i kissed her forehead,,, her eyes were closed and she was sleeping ! and I felt an immense feeling,,,which I later identified as unbridled love,,,, spontaneous and something like Id never felt before !!! My little girl is my greatest gift in recovery and next only to recovery itself !!! God Bless her and keep her well !!!
